It's about as fun as music gets.

The Jesus Lizard - Down
Shellac - At Action Park

Was just reading the File Under: Easy Listening chapter of Bob Mould's book today. He surprisingly wasn't crazy about how it came out and felt as though the process was rushed. I think it holds up pretty well even given the hilarious lifting of entire musical phrases from MBV; the most obvious being "Your Favorite Thing."

seriously...I remember talking to Bob beore his solo show at Georgetown and he talked about Loveless and how it wouldn't be fully appreciated for 20 years.. I find FUEL to be a big letdown....

another album I think was top notch but nobody has mentioned is Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds Let Love In.....superlative.. I can remember buying that at the old Tower Records in Tyson and being blown away...

I guess Guided By Voices Bee Thousand has also been mentioned....

and how about the Mountain Goats Zopilote Machine?

so many albums that came out in 1994 had a big impact on me...

Johnny Cash's American Recordings came out in 94 and I think it was a very important album....not only did it really first introduce me to his music (and revitalize his career for a great final act) in an album form and not just a few songs you heard on the radio... but  I think it may have made many people take a new look at country music.. i wonder if alternative country would have happened without this album...i don't mean would people have recorded it but would people have bought it..

Manu Chao's Clandestino is his first solo record but arguably his last one "with" Mano Negra was a Mano Negra record in name only... to me this album fits in very well with Clandestino...I didn't hear it until later tough but its a good one

I think you all are forgetting the best album of 1994.

The Brooklyn Side by the Bottle Rockets

also, not their best, but it was their debut....

Hitchhike to Rhome by Old 97's.

Also worth mention:

Tulare Dust - A Songwriter's Tribute to Merle Haggard
Iris DeMent - My Life
The Mavericks -What a Crying Shame
Johnny Cash - American Recordings
Todd Snider - Songs for the Daily Planet
Portishead ? Dummy
 Jeff Buckley ? Grace

upon further reflection I made a mistake when I said Casa Babylon was Manu's first solo album all but in name..I meant the King of Bongo album...

my apologies..

Sounds like you are making a list of 1994 from your view today not your view of what was good in 1994 when you were in 1994.
