These old shadow DJ Setlists have me all nostalgic for the period in my life when I had the time and energy to keep up with a least a couple local bands.

Just listed to that Middle Distance Runner album from 2006, such as great album from them...

The NPR recording from one of the 2005 shows at 9:30 with that song is absolutely incredible. Such a great tune and they crush it in the rare moments they play it live. Everything that is great about B&S is summarized in that song.

Few things of note..
TIL: The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner is a 1962 British coming-of-age film.

there is a 2006 NPR 9:30 recording
https://www.npr.org/2006/03/06/5235927/belle-and-sebastian-the-new-pornographers

Although what is odd, the webpage says Part 2, and it starts after LoaMDR and I can't find part one
would be interested in hearing that

I feel like by 2001 I'd stopped listening to new B&S
at the time that Jonathan David (single..not ep?) had no appeal to me
Legal man was kind of it for me

They have had tons of great songs since then for sure, but I felt like my head was filled with so many good B&S songs it just seemed like diminishing returns at that point

Good call, it was early 2006. That link you mention has the second half of the show, from Your Cover's Blown and after.

Here's the entire show...

For the record not enjoying “ Legal Man” is a sit in the corner and think about what you have done type of situation

This corner is getting crowded.
