Rep. Veronica Escobar said Monday that President Donald Trump "is not welcome" in her hometown of El Paso, Texas, as the city recovers from a shopping-complex mass shooting that killed 20 people and injured more than two dozen.

"From my perspective, he is not welcome here. He should not come here while we are in mourning," Escobar, a Democrat whose district includes nearly all of El Paso, told MSNBC's "Morning Joe." "I would encourage the president's staff members to have him do a little self-reflection. I would encourage them to show him his own words and his actions at the rallies."

i'm hoping that maybe... just maybe...  we've finally reached the tipping point.

with the NRA weakened, maybe we can inject the smallest iota of sanity to the gun situation in this country.

maybe.

I would hope so too but there are just too many guns out there and trying to confiscate (legal) guns from owners will be a shit show.  I do think there are many issues that lead to these killings but as far as a "product" solution I think all we can do is try to control ammo sales/what is available at the moment.

agreed, but who ever said anything about confiscating everyone's guns?  that's a non-starter.  voluntary buy-backs, maybe, but confiscation isn't going to work.

we need "go-forward" solutions: stopping the wrong people from getting their hands on guns.  yes, some will access existing guns (their parents, or steal, or buy on the black market, etc.) but it would be a huge improvement if we could curb current unfettered gun sales.  it's a baby step, but let's start with that.  once the ammosexuals realize that a little bit of gun control isn't going to take away their toys, we can ramp things up slowly... require fingerprint unlocks, a gun registry, etc.

oh boy, this is going to blow up a lot of people's narratives:

Dayton shooter appeared to have leftist Twitter feed
A Twitter account that appears to belong to Dayton mass shooter Connor Betts retweeted extreme left-wing and anti-police posts, as well as tweets supporting Antifa, or anti-fascist, protesters.

fuck.  we all know who is going to use this as an example of "bad people on both sides"...

I always thought people should wait to jump to conclusions

But to me it doesn’t change anything....we are slowly drifting to a pre civil conflict environment...with the President doing his utmost to help pull us apart

My wife follows and reads right-leaning sites in spite of being a staunch Bernie supporter. Doesn't mean she agrees with anything they say.

This is a revelation for you? Within five minutes of an African-American taking office, older white people started wearing tri-corner hats and chanting “we want our country back,” and you didn’t get it was racism?

“Meanwhile, the Dayton, Ohio, shooter had a history of supporting political figures like Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, and ANTIFA.” @OANN   I hope other news outlets will report this as opposed to Fake News. Thank you!
