You pay for sex a lot more often than you think you do.

This "scandal" isn't about prostitution in general; it's more about Spitzer specifically.  This is about a guy who prosecuted prostitution rings and who campaigned against prostitution.  One of the first laws he signed as governor was legislation that called for a crackdown on the demand for prostitutes and increased the penalties for patronizing a prostitute (1 year in jail).

True to his nature of believing that he is above the rules of mere mortals, he has now hired a blue ribbon team of attorneys to argue why he shouldn't even be indicted (much less prosecuted) under the exact law that he pushed for and that he instituted.

The sad thing is, the douchebag will likely walk.

And to answer Sweetcell's question, I'm guessing that statement right there is exactly the way most johns rationalize it to themselves.

I'm not against prostitution -- I think the government has no business making it a crime -- but have you ever been in a strip club and seen one of those guys who has like 10 women sitting around him all night?    They're doing that 'cause he's peeling off $100 bills.   And that guy always looks like he thinks he is absolutely the shit -- but a guy who has to pay for women to hang out with him, that guy is as big a loser as they come.

sure, there can be a financial aspect.  a gift of flowers, a meal in a fancy restaurant, a drink in a bar... but it's not the only aspect.  there is still charm, looks, conversation, making a connection, etc.  either one of you could walk away at any point, as opposed to the other person being under contract.

sometimes, kicking the douchebag out of office and ruining his name is as good an outcome as us mere mortals can hope for.

and personally, i don't want to be that guy any more than a guy who pays for sex straight up.

if client 9 had been smart about this, he would had one of his cronies give her a job and kept here as his mistress... i'm personally counting down the days when the dems turn this country into france!

I don't think he would be interested in a mistress. It's prostitution that he's into, not adultery. Which makes his ten times the douchebag.

I wouldn't go as far as saying 'no money' - $1,000 per hour whores just aren't in the budget!
And yeah, I would totally pay that whore for sex!

interesting - engaging in prostitution is ten times worse than adultery? (putting aside the fact that a married person engaging in prostitution is also committing adultery...)

i think that adultery (keeping a mistress) is worse - more of a relationship, most probably more emotion, and it's longer-term... seeing a hooker is a short-term physical thing.

only way that prostitution seems worse to me is the STD factor... and professionals make their their clients wear protection.

absolutely not.  sex is awesome, mind-expanding, and the greatest thing you can do with another person (as long as it's consentual).  sex can be dirty but only when you're lucky  ;)   in my books, sex is encouraged and will be until the day i become a parent (should be interesting, since i'm against abstinence education... for now).

marrying someone - making a life-long promise to them - then stepping out and having sex with someone else, now that's nasty.  then again i'm not married, so i'm speaking for a group that i'm not a member of.

Marriage is kind of a bogus concept too, in my view, but that's a whole other discussion...
