Got my sorry ass off the couch this weekend to see the Dirtbombs for the first time and attend a show at the RNR hotel.
Naught special about the RNR Hotel for all the bands felt the sound was lacking especially in the vocals department. One have hardly known that Kelley Stoltzs group had a sax player in it. The vocal mix for the Dirtbombs improved over time, but was still a bit muddy.
The Dirtbombs blew my head off and managed early in their set to play two of my favorites songs in a row. "Sherlock Holmes" and "Motor City Baby".
Ended up with two encores which included a killer INXS cover during the first and the second encore while a bit self indulgent towards the end had drummer Ben Blackwell playing with floor tom on his for a bit, instrument switching and closing out with Blackwell doing his best Thurston Moore impression.
There really needs to be more fun in Rock and Roll again as is the case of Dirtbombs, and will really be glad when whiny indie rocks go out of favor.
Kelley Stoltz was good in the sounds vaguely familiar style, his older rockier material featured towards the end of the set was fun.
