I actually mentioned Booka Shade - Movements, but it needs the additional bump, shit is a modern classic.  I have many of these other records as well in the collection, and like them a lot, but wouldn't consider a lot of them "essential" except for Big Black and Bonnie Prince Billy, don't know how I missed those two.

The Man Who Sold the World
 Ziggy Stardust
 Aladdin Sane
 Low
 Heroes
 Scary Monsters

I think Diamond Dogs often get's left off the absolutely essential Bowie albums list.  Also don't forget Hunky Dory. [/b]
Dont forget 1.outside, not because its fairly new ('95?) its not good, thats an amazing album

My take: Argentinean band Babasonicos (infame or anoche, both pretty good stuff)

Oops, I'd actually go with The Ascension over No. 1, but both are solid.

And I see there is a Basement Jaxx singles comp - so def that over a single album.

If I had to pick one Books album, it would be The Lemon of pink; leagues better than Thought for Food IMO.

Don't get me wrong, I like them both, but I heard Thought For Food first and fell in love with it pretty hard, so I think I kinda hold it in a little higher regards for the originality factor.  If I had heard Lemon of Pink first, I probably would rank it higher - honestly I think they're both just about equal in terms of quality.

BTW - did you see them live @ 9:30 a while back?  Really interesting show.

I did. Very enjoyable; would see them again. Much longer set than what I was expecting too which is always nice.

 Todd Reynolds was good too.
