So tomorrow night is the June "We Fought the Big One" at Marx Cafe...I'm finally gonna make it!
Here are the deets from past nights:
It's free and we spin until 3am.
And for those of you that would like more info about the night, here it is:
"We Fought the Big One" is a new monthly indie music night hosted by local music obsessives turned DJs Brandon Grover and Rick Taylor aka DJ Trickster. Held the first Friday of every month at The Marx Cafe (3203 Mt. Pleasant Street, NW), "We Fought..." features a diverse range of musical styles: jangle guitar pop, post-punk, shoegaze, left-of-center brit pop, and indie electro, to name a few. While there will be plenty of artists played at "We Fought..." that are considered "fan favorites", a strong emphasis will be placed on excellent songs that rarely get played out in clubs, if ever. In addition, the night will serve as a showcase for new and upcoming bands from the U.K. and elsewhere that have yet to break the American market (or have their albums released here!), as well as older bands from the 80s and 90s that were never given the recognition they deserved (The Trash Can Sinatras, Close Lobsters & House of Love come to mind). Ultimately, the goal is to create an environment where music fans can hear some of their favorite bands alongside worthy bands that they haven't heard, whether they are from the past or the present.
There is no cover charge. 21+
10pm-3am

DJ TRICKSTER (WE FOUGHT THE BIG ONE)
Rumor has it DJ Trickster got his name playing "tricks" on other DJs in order to hear his favorite Factory & Creation Records artists. While he will neither confirm nor deny the truth of this, Trickster admits the number of requests he's made since getting behind the decks himself has dropped significantly.
Trickster can now be heard spinning the first Friday night of each month at the Marx Cafe in Mt. Pleasant, where he co-deejays "We Fought the Big One"â??a night specializing in new, import-only indie selections alongside classic, older alternative sounds. Trickster has also been known to make frequent appearances at the Blue Room, where he often spins on Wednesday nights at "Hi Fi", Blue's open-turntable event.
