I think some of these lists are being way too generous, but as someone said earlier today, it is all a matter of perspective. It would be hard for all of us to agree on the same ten good bands.

Has anyone heard of The Vita Ruins? They've only played two shows, and haven't released their EP yet, but they've been getting some good buzz lately.  DCist.com Article

Their next gig is a dcist.com sponsored show @ DC9 on September 14th.

 My personal favorites are:
 *Alien
 *Godspeed To That Polytheist

I would second that with a big 'hell yeah' except that I haven't seen him as a solo performer. That said, I saw Canyon 4-5 times and was absolutely blown away every time. They were so good, and it's just gutting that they went their separate ways.

I love the Apes. I've seen them a few times and it's always great.

I like what I've heard from the Sounds of Kaleidoscope and am jazzed for the show tonight.

I'm throwing in a vote for Five Four (www.fivefourmusic.com).

I think the rest of my favorite local bands have already been mentioned.
