A dreaded sunny day
So I meet you at the cemetry gates
Keats and Yeats are on your side
 A dreaded sunny day
So I meet you at the cemetry gates
Keats and Yeats are on your side
 While Wilde is on mine

So we go inside and we gravely read the stones
All those people, all those lives
 Where are they now ?
 With loves, and hates
 And passions just like mine
 They were born
 And then they lived
 And then they died
 It seems so unfair
 I want to cry

You say : "'Ere thrice the sun done salutation to the dawn"
And you claim these words as your own
But I've read well, and I've heard them said
A hundred times (maybe less, maybe more)
 If you must write prose/poems
The words you use should be your own
Don't plagiarise or take "on loan"
 'Cause there's always someone, somewhere
With a big nose, who knows
And who trips you up and laughs
 When you fall
Who'll trip you up and laugh
 When you fall

You say : "'Ere long done do does did"
Words which could only be your own
 And then produce the text
 From whence was ripped
 (Some dizzy whore, 1804)

 A dreaded sunny day
So let's go where we're happy
And I meet you at the cemetry gates
Oh, Keats and Yeats are on your side
 A dreaded sunny day
So let's go where we're wanted
And I meet you at the cemetry gates
Keats and Yeats are on your side
 But you lose
'Cause weird lover Wilde is on mine

 Sure !

Sure......

You don't know how to ease my pain
 You don't know
You don't know how to ease my pain
You don't know what the sound is darlin'
It's the sound of my tears fallin'
 Or is it the rain?
You don't know how to play the game
 You cheat
 You lie
 You make me wanna cry
 You make me wanna cry
 Cry...
 You make me wanna cry
You don't know how to ease my pain
 You don't know
You don't know how to ease my pain
Don't you hear any voices cryin'?
That's the sound of my love(?) dyin'
 Here comes the rain
You don't know how to play the game
 You cheat
 You lie
You don't even know how to say goodbye
 You make me wanna cry
 You don't know
You don't even know how to say goodbye
 You make me wanna cry
You don't even know how to say goodbye
 You make me wanna cry
 Cry...
 Cry (x3)

Give me time
 To realise my crime
 Let me love and steal
I have danced inside your eyes
 How can I be real

Do you really want to hurt me
Do you really want to make me cry
 Precious kisses
 Words that burn me
 Lovers never ask you why
 In my heart
 The fires burning
 Choose my colour
 Find a star
 Precious people always tell me
 That's a step
 A step too far

Do you really want to hurt me
Do you really want to make me cry
Do you really want to hurt me
Do you really want to make me cry

 Words are few
 I have spoken
I could waste a thousand years
 Wrapped in sorrow
 Words are token
 Come inside/and catch my tears
 You've been talking
 But believe me

 If it's true
 You do not know
This boy loves without a reason
 I'm prepared
 To let you go

If it's love you want from me
 Then take it away
Everything is not what you see
 It's over again

Do you really want to hurt me
Do you really want to make me cry
Do you really want to hurt me
Do you really want to make me cry

You don't remember me
 But I remember you
 T'was not so long ago
You broke my heart in two

 [CHORUS:]
 Tears on my pillow
 Pain in my heart
 Caused by you

 [2:]
 If we could start anew
 I wouldn't hesitate
 I'd gladly take you back
And tempt the hand of fate

 [CHORUS:]

 [3:]
 Love is not a gadget
 Love is not a toy
When you find the one you love
She'll fill your heart with joy

 [2:]

 [CHORUS:]

 [x3:]
 Caused by you

I take that back.  Don't make us cry.

Then again, if I was choosing the Culture Club to make people cry, I would have sticked with "Victims"

The victims we know so well
 They shine in our eyes
 When they kiss and tell
 Strange places we never see
 But you're always there
Like a ghost in my dreams
And i keep on telling you
Please don't do the things you do
 When you do those things
 Pull my puppet strings
I have that strangest void for you

We love and we never tell
What places our hearts in the wishing well
Love lead us into the stream
 And it's sink or swim
 Like it's always been
And i keep on loving you
It's the only thing to do
 When the angel sings
 There are greater things
Can i give them all to you

 Pull the strings of emotion
Take a ride into unknown pleasure
 Feel like a child
 On a dark night
Wishing there was some kind of heaven
I could be warm with your smiling
Hold out your hand for a while
 The victims
 We know them so well

 (chorus)

 Show my heart some devotion
Push aside those that whisper never
Feel like a child on a dark night
Wishing we could spend it together
I could be warm with your smiling
Hold out your hand for a while
 The victims
 We know them so well

Well, if we're going for sad, this one takes the cake.

 the kitchen is cold
 but the coffee is warm
 and the suns coming up
 the day has just begun
 and your already bored.

 bored of cheering me up
 bored of calming me down
 bored of drying my eyes
but there once was a time when you were the one.
you were the blue of the sky
 you came after the storm
you were the switch on the wall
in the dark of the hall
 im still fumbling for

cuz im lost in the black
i dont know where I am.
 arms strecthed out in front
 im calling your name
just as loud as I can

I know theres words that we will never speak
and the questions cant be answered easily
but I wanted to be easy so
nod your head if the plans have change
shake it, love, they stayed the same
smile at me and I will stay
start to cry and I'll go away
just please dont leave me guessing.

 so you made me come
 then you sent me away
 like a messenger bird
 so I circled the earth
 blown away in the wind
 but I always returned
 with some new little song
 some sad story to tell
 of a breif love affair
with a girl I compared to you and she failed
you said you dont want me to beg
then you said get down on your knees
cuz you knew that I would
if I do any good satisfying your needs.

and I know all about those things we cannot speak
and just so you know well they dont bother me
so you dont have to be worried
just nod your head if the plans have changed
shake it, love, if they stayed the same
smile at me and I will stay
start to cry and I'll go away
just please dont keep me waiting

just nod your head if your mind's been changed
shake it, love, if some hope remains
just say the word and of course ill stay
roll your eyes and Ill go away
just please dont leave me guessing.
just please dont keep me waiting

This is to make you "happy cry"

A man is in love, how do I know?
He came and walked with me, and he told me so
In a song he sang, and then I knew
A man is in love with you

A man is in love, how did I hear?
I heard him talk too much whenever you're near
He whispered your name when his eyes were closed
A man is in love and he knows

A man is in love, how did I guess?
I figuered it out while he was watching you dress
He'd give you his all, if you'd but agree
A man is in love and he's me

Umm two songs in a row I do not recognise.....

 Back to sad:

Gonna take a nitcomb to get rid of me
Cos I just realized that it was meant to be
And I'm singing to all the torn betting slips
 Flying around my feet
I'm talking to all the chewing gum
That's stuck everywhere on the street
And they're ringing the bells all over the city on a Saturday night
Nobody knows why, but they know its gonna be alright

Cos it's gonna take a nitcomb to get rid of me
Cos I just realized that it was meant to be
I'm standing at the sale of the shoes of bankrupt men
I just had to buy a pair to show I can live again
They're ringing the bells all over the city on a Saturday night
Nobody knows why, but they know its gonna be alright

It's gonna take a nitcomb to get rid of me
Cos I just realized that it was meant to be
And they're banging on the sheets of metal, sheets of gold
And these were the finest shoes that were ever sold
Raining on roofs, raining on drums
Love buys a six-pack and gives it to the bums
They're ringing on the bells in the city on a Saturday night
Nobody knows why, but they know its gonna be alright

Yeah, lets keep the sad theme going!

If, if you choose that we will always lose
Well then I'll sail this ship alone
And if, if you decide to give him another try
Well then I'll sail this ship alone

Well they said if I wrote the perfect love song
 You would take me back
Well I wrote it but I lost it
And now will you take me back anyway

Now if, if you insist that this is for the best
Well then I'll sail this ship alone
And if, if you swear that you no longer care
Well then I'll sail this ship alone

 I'll sail this ship alone
Between the pain and the pleasure
 I'll sail this ship alone
Amongst the sharks and the treasure
If you would rather go your way then go your way
 I'll sail this ship alone

If, if you're afraid that I won't make the grade
Well then I'll sail this ship alone
And if, if you agree to him instead of me
Well then I'll sail this ship alone

Well they said if I wrote the perfect letter
That I would have a chance
Well I wrote it, and you burnt it
And now do I have a chance anyway

If, if you swear that you no longer care
Well then I'll sail this ship alone

 I'll sail this ship alone
Between the pain and the pleasure
 I'll sail this ship alone
Amongst the sharks and the treasure
If you would rather go your way then go your way
 I'll sail this ship alone

Well they said if I burnt myself alive
 That you'd come running back

Mine was the inconceivably sad "Messenger Bird's Song" by Bright Eyes.  Just thinking of it... *sigh*  Don't think I've ever heard a song that so well captures that hurt-angry-feeling-used-deflated-why-why-why feeling of a breakup.

Of course there's always this one...this gets old Manks waterworks going everytime!

Kiss me goodnight and say my prayers
Leave the light on at the top of the stairs
Tell me the names of the stars up in the sky
A tree taps on the window pane
 That feeling smothers me again
Daddy is it true that we all have to die

At the top of the stairs
 Is darkness

I closed my eyes and when I looked
Your name was in the memorial book
and what had become of all the things we planned
 I accepted the commiserations
Of all your friends and your relations
But there's some things I still don't understand

 You were so tall
 How could you fall?

Some photographs of a summer's day
 A little boy's lifetime away
Is all I've left of everything we've done
Like a pale moon in a sunny sky
Death gazes down as I pass by
To remind me that I'm but my father's son

 I offer up to you
 This tribute
 I offer up to you
 This tank park salute

i've always been partial to this song for sadness:

In the spring of my life she came to me
She brought sunshine where winter winds had blown
Then I took her for my wife in the spring of my life
And she brought me a joy I'd never known

And the years they went by in the spring of my life
And in summer she blessed me with a child
Love continued to grow in the summer of my life
And in every morning sun I saw her smile

But in the autumn of my years I noticed the tears
And I knew that our life was in the past
Though I tried to pretend, I knew it was the end
For the autumn of my life had come at last

Now what, what do you say to a child of ten?
How do you tell him his daddy's goin' away?
Do I tell him that I reached the autumn of my life
And that he'll understand some winter's day?

Now a rose can't be found on a snow-covered ground
And the sun cannot shine through cloudy skies
But I'm richer, you see, for the years she gave to me
And I'm content in the autumn of my life
