Prince @ 9:30, 6/20???

and that's the operative word, ON.
 
 i've seen him multiple times and the majority of the time, it just wasn't a good show. too disjointed, too many guitar riff solos, etc. that show at the capital ballroom was not impressive at all, i remember being clearly disappointed.
 
 however, i missed that last show here, at the warner, i believe, and that, i heard, was a night he was so on. so, i take a gamble again, and i have tickets for the first night of his 2 date stand at the mci center.

Many of you have probably heard rumblings about the new Prince and the New Power Generation, Musicology, which he debuted on his Web site, npgmc.com, earlier this week.
 
 Today we bring you the full scoop on the CD. The album will be sent to stores on April 20 via Columbia and also at Princeâ??s current tour stops: every ticket holder will receive a free copy of the disc upon entering. Prince had originally set out to release the album through all five major labels, but in the end, resorted to Columbia only.

 I originally had tix for the Pittsburgh show, but had to get rid of them at the last minute. Then I read the review and started sulking:

 Especially this line:
 It was one of those shows where if your friend was there and you weren't, you're never going to hear the end of it.
 
 
 So...I decided at about 3:00 on Saturday to check for tix in Cleveland which is < 2 hr drive - they must have just released a bunch since I got 2 on the floor in the 10th row. [I've done this last minute deal with success a couple other times during the past year]
 
 It was a GREAT show. I suppose my appreciation for Prince can be connected back to the Afghan Whigs digging him & often covering many of his songs - The Cross - Purple Rain - Little Red Corvette. But there's nothing like the real thing baby.
 
 It's gonna take something very special during the rest of this year to top this show for sheer enjoyment, spectacle, energy, talent, etc.
 
 The crowd was as enthralled as I've ever seen. Even Prince seemed amazed by it at times. And he's even a more talented musician than I thought - he ripped off Van Halen's Eruption near note perfect at one pt...His middle acoustic set often strayed closer to blues than the funky R&B you'd expect.
 
 And then there's his band:
 The New Power Generation is like a lean, mean, eight-piece Funkadelic with all the weapons of a small militia. The drummer seemed to have eight arms and the three horn players could have been blowing in any jazz club, especially Candy Dulfer, who looks like a Victoria's Secret model and plays like David Sanborn.
 
 Looking back - I would have bought the tickets & made the drive just to see the encore. Purple Rain was that good.
 
 Looks like both DC shows are sold but, but you can bet I'll be finding tix for that Friday night. Anyone have extras?

Actually, neither show is completely sold out. (Although it looks like single-seats for the first night.)  Still, I'd recommend waiting for them to release tickets the day of the show.  That's what I'm going to do.
