how about because with these new rules at the TSA - having to buy sunscreen, shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste etc. gets very expensive very quickly. let alone - there is not always enough time to re-buy it all. their limitations on the sizes and amounts is a pain in the ass. and i use more sunscreen than should be allowed, but with me being uber pale, there is no way in hell im buying it all the time and then throwing it out when i go on my 4 day getaways.

i've had airlines lose my luggage on direct flights, and waiting 20 minutes for my bags to appear on the carousel isn't my idea of fun.

i travel every week for work here in DC (amtrak i love you), and can fit a week's worth of clothes for business meetings + workout + casual/going-out in a 21" carry-on (not expanded).

thank goodness marriott is stocked with complimentary shaving cream and toothpaste, 'cause xNWx's point is a very valid one whenever i have to fly.

DO NOT EVEN GET ME STARTED.  As it is, too many motherf*&^ers try to carry on bags FAR too big.  Now with the added incentive to carry on rather than check, folks will attempt to bring on larger and larger bags, thereby filling up the overhead space before half the plane has been boarded.  It'll all be like a Friday flight to Chicago on Southwest.  WAY too much stuff for limited overhead space.  I am disgusted by it...as I will no doubt be disgusted by many of my fellow travelers more and more in the future.

my girlfriend did     :p

we were island hopping, didn't really require a lot of clothes [/b]
your girlfriend must have a peen then.
because most girls i know couldn't pack a carry-on for more than a weekend. despite the location. [/b]
What about enough shampoo for a week?  You can get a week's worth of living out of one quart-sized bag of 3 oz bottles?

i assume you're asking me, rather than her?

i always bring a 3oz bottle of shampoo, but rarely end up using it ... most places i stay give you free shampoo & soap, it's a great perk

Well, Hoya...this may be just me, but I think many ladies have their own shampoo/conditioner combo that they use, and even in the fanciest places I don't usually use the hotel supplies.

Also, the sunblock is a good point.  The cost of one big bottle of sunscreen at a vacation destination can be the price of the one checked bag.

flying is for people who like the risk of falling out of the sky, on fire, and dying.
i mainly take the train through the rain on the plains because airports and all people involved with them are pains.

The last trip we took was to Spain. We flew to Seville. Apparently, the three letter airport code for Seville is nearly identical to Moscow. We found this out because the Continental baggage guy made a joke about sending our luggage to Moscow.

When we arrived in Seville, my bag was there, my wife's was not. Our airline tracked her bag down in a timely fashion. Where was it? Moscow. Withing 24 hours it was flown to Spain and delviered to our hotel.

Why is it that a lot of people see it fit to have a drink in the bar 20 minutes before their flight takes off but very few people see it fit to have a drink after their plane lands?

I don't wait 20 minutes for my bags because I'm smart enough to relax after a long flight in the bar with a beer.

I don't usually grab a beer, but I really don't see how 20 minutes is intolerable.

I usually steal the shampoo and conditioners and soap from the hotel I'm staying at.

When I flew to San Fran for a week, I had all my clothes in one 20" bag, plus a backpack. I don't require a new pair of pants/trousers every day if it's not formal wear so I can rewear them. Only thing I bring extra are underwear and socks and I always have a big sweater along.

btw, why the hell would you fly anything but JetBlue for long trips?

Um, you're not stealing them. They're yours for the taking.

Why would I fly anything other than JetBlue? My miles program is on another airline, and for work travel, I take whatever airline they give me.

You can get away with 2 or 3 quart sized bags. When in line send 1 in the same bin as your larger carryon bag, 1 in the bin with your purse, and so on with your shoes, jacket or laptop bins. They don't catch on.
