Perhaps they could combine the two and be the first radio station that plays Big Country, 24/7.

Here's their latest acquisition

There's a new "classic alternative" station in San Diego, and one in Utah http://www.kjq.com/ that plays all the big 80s bands.  It's the new wave (pun intended) in radio programming.

Oh yeah, meant to get on your case...woxy was a damn fine station for those of us who enjoy "indie rock". KEXP is ok, but a lot of their programming isn't so great. For you to say woxy sucks; that is just hard to imagine, cause even if you don't like indie-rock, the fact that a station still exists that plays it, is something in itself -- a very positive thing. And it wasn't a college station. No wonder Mark get's on your case so much...you're too close-minded.

WOXY.com will still be around. The folks who run WOXY are becoming an online entity. It's the station in OH that has been sold.

I dunno...take a look at the KEXP charts below, and tell me you don't see a lot of indie rock on it.

KEXP tends to go much deeper into the albums when it comes to song selection. WOXY only appears to play two or three cuts over and over.

I'm not saying KEXP is bad, or that they don't play indie rock...but it's a college station, so they have times where there is types of music i don't like on, like hip-hop, or i've even heard classical on there before. This is fine, its cool to be diverse, but I prefer at least the same general format all the time.

It's actually a public funded commercial free station, not a college station.

If I wanted radio with the same format all the time, I'd just tune into any of the other thousands of radio stations.

Perhaps I can be pointed in the direction of other good internet radio then. What other stations play the kind of indie, pitchfork approved music that gets played on Woxy and KEXP?

I have tried others, things like radioparadise, but it is far too middle aged, and backward focused. 3wk is OK, I guess.......

I saw that coming...let me explain...

In RI where I'm originally from, there is a fairly decent station, WBRU. They play good stuff, till 2 am, then they switch to blues or jazz. And i like blues and jazz, but not to listen to it on the radio, i prefer it live.

And then, all of sunday they play R+B. It always bugged me. Playing eclectic music isn't the issue. Mix in electronica, dance, metal, bluegrass, jazz, whatever, but don't be an indie station and then play two hours of jazz standards or suddenly do hip hop for a night. Stick with whatever it is you're doing. KCRW is cool, but only for the shows i like. And thats fine, they don't claim to be anything other than bastions of good music, which they are.

My main point was that whether or not Rhett loves indie-rock, and i'm sure he loves some of it, he has to appreciate what WOXY was doing, and just cause they didn't play alt-country or whatever the hell the two of you listen to, it's ridiculous to claim it sucks, which he has on many an occasion.

I never said it sucked.

My initial comment was a joke.

I tried listening to WOXY and found that I didn't like much of what they play. Though a small minority of it I liked quite a bit.

Truthfully, KEXP is best listened to when I can go through the archives and weed out the music I don't want to hear. Though that means I have to stop and start it rather than letting it play continously.
