My impressions of a couple new releases:
Sun Kil Moon "April" -- Have tried to get into this guy's stuff, whether SKM or Red House Painters and have always been put to sleep. But this is hitting very well, mostly because of the first song. Liking this a lot.
Black Keys "Attack & Release" -- Good, and getting better. Some of the songs feel like classics after only 2-3 spins. Probably won't stick around the rotation for very long, but it'll get a few weeks.
Howling Rain "Magnificant Friend" -- Good, but I struggle to listen to this and not lament the hiatus/split of Comets on Fire. First HR album was really mellow but this has more rawk elements.
Panic at t!he Disco -- Tried to give this an objective listen, and I've had chemical romances with cheese bands in the past. But this just isn't very good. Sounds too much like they did the Alicia Keys routine of listening to a lot of classic albums and then writing songs that sound just like them. But even the Beatles didn't go straight from Please Please Me to Sgt Peppers.
Dodos "Visitor" -- This is okay, kind of neat, but sounds too much like boring bands like Shins, Modest Mouse, Spoon etc.
These New Puritans "Beat Pyramid" -- Other than SKM, probably my favorite of the new batch. Sounds kind of a combo of Art Brut and Bloc Party. Jagged, sorta-electronic pop with very British declaration-style vocals.
