rest of the week: meeting french directors and seeing french films at the french film festival.
Is this in D.C.?  Do you have a link?

I think I got an e-mail about it the other week from the Maison Française, but couldn't read it (my work blocks all of Yahoo Mail except the preview pane), and then I forgot to look at it at home...
BTW... I finally dug up the e-mail in question, and information on the series is here:

I'm in for Bloc Party and White Lies/Friendly Fires.  I think I'll be at Primal Scream as well.

I saw them when they first came out and I did not like them. They might've gotten better, but I'm planning on showing up after their set.

Have to disagree with Julian. Always thought their music was okay. Not great but not bad. Then I saw them do a couple songs last summer when they opened for Swervedriver at the 9:30 Club and was pleasantly surprised. Much better live than I had expected. Not blown away but very much enjoyed them and wouldn't mind seeing them live again. Maybe he's right about them getting better. Due to attending a party beforehand, I missed their entire set and was very sorry to have missed the early part because I really enjoyed what I did catch.

Longwave were way better last night than when they opened for Swervedriver...weren't they at a major label at some point? I recognized some songs from 2003 or 2004.

Longwave was, and they sort of refer to that album as the one they would like to forget. I think their new material, which they played heavily last night, is some of their best. I'm biased, always liked them, but even seeing them on back to back nights they still sounded pretty fresh. Having booked them before, i can tell you they are a nice group of guys too. Shame they don't get as much press as they should...
