In other words, when indie hipster shows sell out, it's cool.......when top forty bands do it....they are mainstream sell outs.

Oh wait, I forgot, Indie is mainstream now...LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL. [/QB]
are you drunk?  you make zero sense.

but really, when a show sells out generally, there are a few reasons

  1. the band is a great band with lots of fans

  2. the media has hyped a band up so much that people fear missing the show.

  3. they are totally mainstream.

perhaps all we're saying is that number 1 is usually not the answer.

Can anyone who was at last night's excellent show post a set list? I'm terrible about remembering song names and sequence.

So, getting back to BRMC.......

The show last night. Hrmmm. I guess my ambivalence about the new CD is confirmed. I really dug about half the show and was bored with the other half. I looked over at my wife after the first three songs we both rolled our eyes.

They got rolling after that and really hit their stride with "Love Burns" (anyone know if that's a cover???). But when all is said and done, I think I might just pass on them the next time around.  :(

"Love Burns" is an original as far as I know.  I think their new stuff is excellent. Much better than 90% of the second album which they wisely do away with performing. And Peter has become pretty darn good at playin' the harp. You're telling me you didn't dig "Shuffle Your Feet" or "Ain't No Easy Way"?  If thats the case, you ain't got no soul, man! Those two were probably my favorite of the set. "Gospel Song" was also quite powerful, although they borrow heavily from Spiritualized on that number.

I'm sure I am in the minority, but I actually think Howl is their best yet, though the first CD is excellent also.  The new material sounded great live as well as the older material.  Really enjoyed Whatever Happened to My Rock 'N Roll.

It's so funny how we all have different reactions to shows. I thought the show was terrific. Maybe it was my state of mind, but I really enjoyed the quieter, new songs. I thought many of them were transcendent. I'm not sure what song it was, but the first song Robert sang (near the beginning) was especially striking. But I also love that blues sound and Peter's harmonica playing. To me, the new and old flowed nicely. The emphasis was definitely on the new material, though. Very little was played from the 2nd album, as far as I could tell. They played a really solid set timewise -about 1 hr 45mins with 5 songs in the encore. Oh and they had a second guy on guitar for the new stuff.

Love Burns is from their first album. Definitely a highlight.

I thought the show was great.  I particularly enjoyed the solo acoustic opening into Shuffle your Feet.  New stuff, old stuff -- I thought it all sounded great.

If I were to criticize something I would just say that they never kept the "flow" of the show going after the first few songs.  A minor point since all the songs sounded great.

For the first time, they actually seemed comfortable on stage.

Loved the show last night.

But admittedly. I don't know all of there stuff.  What was the 2nd to last song before the encore.  They should have ended with that song...

 Thanks

Where was everyone? I looked and looked and didn't see any of you. At least I did have some friends around me so not all was lost.

I thought the show was great with a few exceptions. First off, I was thrilled to see Mark Gardener especially since I never had the pleasure of seeing Ride. Was very delighted with the Fairport Convention song that opened his set by that woman with a gorgeous voice.

For me, BRMC's set started lagging during Howl but picked up steam as the songs picked up a bit later on.

Was it me or did they seem to have all of their guitars tuned to B flat or some other very flat chord? It worked extremely well for some songs but not so well for a few others. All in all, I was quite happy with the show.

Also, I'm happy to say that I escaped injury as I was almost cloncked in the head a couple hundred times by Robert's guitar. When it wasn't Robert's it was Peter's.

 BRMC Set List:
 (Written as on list)

 Complicated Situation
 Fault Line
 Devils Waitin
 Shuffle Your Feet
 Aint No Easy Way
 Weight Of The World
 Love Burns
 White Palms
 Punk Song
 As Sure As The Sun
 Rise Or Fall
 Howl
 Still Suspicion
 U.S. Government (alt)
 Sympathetic Noose
 Promise

 Spread Your Love
 Stop
 Gospel
 The Line
 Open Invitation
