Pretty mixed  reviews....  Anyone know if they plan to tour, though?

I've found what I've heard off of their new album pretty boring. Think I'll opt for Jesse Sykes when the Posies are on at Bumbershoot. Here's their current tour dates. Looks like DC might get a late Sept date with Oranger and Deathray Davies.

I agree...it's kind of a disappointment. In fact, keeping somewhat with the tradition of some of their album titles they could have just named it Disappointment. I think the last one (Success) was much better. So was Stringfellow's last album.

I'm just listening to the album for the first time now...some good tracks, have to see how it grows on me (ditto to Mould's new one -- need to give it a few listens before I can decide; a couple tracks are jumping out at me, but those tend to be the ones that sound like older Mould catalogue...).

I also just rec'd Stringfellow's last solo effort, and will give that a spin over the weekend.

So Chip, what did you think of "Failure"?   ;)

I thought it was so so at first listen, and after like the 10th listen, i love it.  If you dont like it, i dont know how you would like any other Posies disc really. Frosting on the beater is hard to top, but its a semi-close/distant second anyway.
cant wait for them to come around, hopefully a Baltimore rams head date or something.

I actually don't have failure...but i'm more a fan of their later stuff than their older stuff (i don't listen to Dear 23 very much). Amazing Disgrace is my favorite, then Frosting, Success. Actually...I probably listen to their live album the most.

And to be fair...I only listened to Every Kind of Light once...it could be something that grows on you.

The new Supergrass, on the otherhand, is awesome on first listen.

I have Frosting on the Beater, and it's only so-so to me.

For straight ahead guitar pop, I'll take Fountains of Wayne, Nada Surf, Long Winters, old Matthew Sweet, and the ever boring Brendon (Black Cat spelling) Benson. I just don't think the Posies will work for me.

And I shouldn't forget Teenage Fanclub, either.

i'm glad to know that someone else out there likes Amazing Disgrace also... i think it's get unfair dismissed because it so far removed from Dear 23, however if you listen to FOTB the progress is natural.  Grant Hart was the best new Husker Du song written.  the angry towards the record company is just dripping from every groove on it.

while the new record doesn't stand up to FOTB it's still light years ahead of lots of other drivel out there.  and give Ken and Jon credit for creating a working band lineup and not hiring some studio hacks , rehearsing a couple weeks and going out on the road.  the lineup was together for the recording of the record.

and if the new oranger album is anything like the track posted on their website, it's gonna be a great album....
