The sad fact is that to have a nice home with a yard in a safe part of Washington, DC, that is racially well integrated (yes, I would not want to be the only white family on the block) is cost prohibitive for me, and I am a college graduate making what I feel to be a decent salary. I have to move further out.

It's strange, I feel pretty safe in the hood, but it sure gets littered up and there are always leering losers on Columbia by the shitty fast food restaurants and Safeway. The other day on a side street I saw some ass taking a piss on someone's lawn. Not really dangerous, but not really pleasant, either.

That City Paper article was striking in regards to the people who are moving into those new million-dollar lofts in Adams-Morgan. Apparently they are already complaining about the noise from the 18th Street strip. What the hell did they expect? You can be sure that before too long they'll be agitating to get those businesses to tone it down. As a long time DC resident, I'd be just as happy to see many of the new peeps who are coming in and trying to suburbanize the city stay out.

I guess you didn't take what I said as I thought you would. It was a joke. I doubt I would raise my kids in the city either. There's a lot to be said for lots of open space.

quote:
Originally posted by markie:
As for you Thirsty, I grew up in a quiet village. you said, "what is their tax money no good?", which seems to say that is enough, doesn't show a lot of caring, unless following the law is caring
and I was pointing out before that one of the problems with race relation problems in dc is that they may be perceived as not caring
