Don't be silly, we had an open invitation on the web site for weeks, if someone didn't contact us it's not our fault.  Have them send info, examples, etc. to cale at brightestyoungthings.com and we'll get them in next time.

not your fault?

that's funny, because my design team sent in very adequate examples, were told quite eagerly that we were showing, and then didn't hear anything about it until the flyers came out and we weren't on them.  we wasted a month altering garments and working on headbands to sell at the event.  and the only reason i am stooping to having this discussion on a MESSAGE BOARD is because we've been trying to contact you guys for months and no one even had the DECENCY to tell us that, for whatever reason, we weren't showing...

but i guess i was just being silly.

my girlfriend dragged me out to this tonight, and it was a lot like other events i've been to that you've pimped on here ... you and your friends play inside baseball while 80% of the rest of the club wonders what the hell is going on with the douches in white belts hitting beer bongs

Well put, Hoya Paranoia. Very well put. I've gone to a couple of these events, too, been given dirty, catty looks, felt the general air of exclusion. I know, at age 27, I'm pretty old and decrepit and stuff, but still...

Well that sucks, I wasn't actually the person in charge of choosing or communicating with the vendors, but I can certainly find out what happened.  Knowing the person who *was* in charge, I'm sure it wasn't malicious. It's not like we make any money doing this, all of us have real 9-5 day jobs, we throw these parties because we love this city and feel like it needs more interesting nightlife options.  Let me know who you are exactly and if we fucked up maybe we can find a way to make it up to you.

Just to clarify, the beer bong contest was one of the vendors ideas and was obviously supposed to be tongue in cheek, I mean the guy also fronts the heavy metal parody band Rattler.

Also, even if you had a bad time, at least you had a bad time for a good cause since various proceeds from the event went to the Avon walk for breast cancer.

I can't control the actions of the 400 other people that were there, but I was happy to talk to and play requests from anyone who came up to the DJ booth, most of whom I had never met before. Although the positive support for BYT far outweighs the negative, it's not like you guys are the first ones to log these types of complaints. I've had this conversation with Svetlana, the queen of BYT, many times before and we just have to laugh it off because both of us happen to be really nice friendly people. We honestly bust our asses to try to put on really fun events and if time equals money we lose a lot every time.

Again, I can't control how other people act, but in terms of designing and promoting an event if there is anything we can do to make it less exclusive let me know, obviosuly we want people to come and have a good time.  Also, I'll be 28 in less than a month.

My name is Alyssa and I communicated with Svetlana both via Myspace and via e-mail.  I don't know what the hell happened.

For future endeavors, though, if the party in charge DOES happen to decide that, for whatever reason, somebody s/he had told was going to show is not going to show anymore, s/he had better contact them.

I can confidently tell you that fashion is a shitstorm of work, more work than almost any other profession.  You may underestimate, but sewing stuff, and sewing stuff well, takes TIME.  I am still in school and when I have stuff that I need to sew, all of my free time, and most of the time I should probably spend sleeping, is devoted to work on those pieces.

We didn't even need to know WHY we all of a sudden we weren't showing anymore (though, we still would like to know).  But someone taking the courtesy to drop me a five-second "Hey, we don't want you showing anymore" would have saved my design team hours of work and money.  If Svetlana, who I barely know, had randomly woken up one morning and decided she didn't like us anymore, she could have at least taken responsibility and told us to stop working.  Because until I am told otherwise, if I need to work on stuff, I am going to work on stuff because I am a responsible designer and I don't fuck around.

I asked Svet about it and I'll just post her informal reply to me:

 A. is the xx yr old girl I was telling you about that wanted to be in it, and I did tell her that her stuff is great and we would love to have her there, but she wanted to mainly do a runway show and after we decided to NOT do any runway OR fashion installation this time around (as no one had time to produce it) I am 100% sure I emailed her telling her about the event being only sales and that she should probably just prep for the April 28th big art show at the r'n'r that she was already prepping for. you know I am not in the market to antagonize ANYONE, right?

i have her email and will email her again to clarify whether she got the email or not

So, it seems like a case of miscommunication and not us being dicks.

well, still no email thus far, and i am 100% positive that i have not recieved one since i was told that we were accepted into the show.  she might have the wrong address, but she should have the right one, because i have e-mailed her much in the past...?

i do appreciate your attempt at mending the miscommunication, though, it is very noble.  thank you.
