Anyone seen this guy driving around in his truck with a big sign that says "Kerry is unfit, homosexuality is a sin."?
 
 As a good citizen, I flipped him the bird and yelled, "Kerry is very fit, you fairy motherfucker. He looks pretty darn good in a windsurfer suit!"
 
 And while I'm on the topic of loons, I just saw a bunch of fat guys walking around the mall wearing outfits that they looked like they picked up at cherokeenation.com. Did Halloween come early this year, or did the Redskins finally win a game?

 It's actually called the National Museum of the American Indian.
 
 I though it was funny on the metro today, an
 American Indian couple were standing and went to sit down and the fringes of her Indian dress get up got caught in the feather thingy he was carrying and they couldn't untangle it, so they had to sit down like Siamese twins.

I know it was a joke, and after a little digging I found that the museum is called National Museum of the American Indian.  It's a great building that I saw in various stages of construction when I worked near the Mall.
 
 It was funny, because when the Building Museum opened up I saw two buildings standing next to each other on the Metro in traditional dress with their steel girders all entangled.

For most tribes, the feelings on this topic are split down the middle.  Some prefer "American Indian" while others prefer "Native American."  I was down there today for the parade and opening, and was actually able to speak to some tribal members about this subject.

 The white supremacists would be in an uproar (as well as Republicans I'm sure) if a team was called the "Whities, Crackers, or Honkeys."
 
 And the Jewish folks would be upset if a team were called the "Ki*es."
 
 And the list can go on and on, thinking of racial slurs or other derogatory names for different ethnic groups, etc.  So if it isn't acceptable for those folks, it certainly shouldn't be acceptable for the Natives.

I don't think it's quite that simple. The team names Chiefs and Braves don't seem very derogatory or demeaning to me. Just the opposite in fact. I think those team names honor Native Americans. But Redskins? That is definitely pretty derogatory in my book. Indians as a team name is borderline, but their mascot when last I saw it sure looked like a demeaning and distasteful caricature.
