pitchfork skewered them (not that I take that as gospel), but found this last line kind funny

But as an album, Grapetooth feels like pressing ‘Play’ on those same recordings the morning after and realizing that maybe it all wasn’t quite as fun as you thought last night.

LOL Pitchfork.

I only discovered this because a band that kind of disappeared post pandemic was Twin Peaks... this is one of their side projects and it's not bad at all.

Piazzolla- 57 Minutos Con La Realidad

I guess his last recordings from 1989 before the stroke incapacitated him and he died in 1992.

Really his last 16 minutes of studio recordings padded by a contemporaneous live recording. Not sure the raison d’etre for this record. Kip Hanrahan who put it together seems ambivalent about it.

Wow, this just slays

Slays isn't the first word that comes to mind...also, pretty sure they/them ripped off The Boxer.

I couldn’t make it through to the end….but a ways…

I could see this song really speaking to teenagers today…

Each generation has its own music.

But, yeah, I think Paul Simon did it first and with a much better chorus. Then again this is much sadder song whereas the Boxer is an uplifting anthem. The Boxer is about a fighter…this seems to be about someone resigned to things.. Then again Paul Simon “borrowed “ so many licks, chords, fingerings….

Either way, Boygenius is where most young people are at today… I think it would be a complete fraud or forced for a grown man to dig this… I just can’t get in that space anymore

They credit Paul Simon in the liner notes

Also, listen to the lyrics..  not just the melodies

It paints a picture of what it’s like to love someone dealing with a lot of mental/substance issues, and how everyone glosses over something so deeply devastating and debilitating and end up just talking about work and school …. When there is this giant elephant in the room

I just love Lucy’s line “So I take some offense when you say, "No regrets"”

Does it make it any better if you credit someone for using their music AND vocal melody?!?

I still think it’s pretty lacking in creativity. Strokes did the same copping the chorus from Dancing with myself and a part of Ghost in you.

Then again like I said Scarborough Fair Canticle is such a ripoff…if you are going to ripoff anybody please let it be Paul Simon…. We have all heard the Los Lobos story on The myth of fingerprints or listened to Graceland

I guess it’s all right but ultimately it’s about taking influences and bringing them together to make something new. Not sure this song accomplished that….even if it’s serious matter.
