Victor Ray

Came across this born in Uganda, raised in Newcastle singer who starter out a busker.  He of course is quite popular on this thing called TikTok... Anyways, great soulful voice, I expect he'll be doing quite well for himself...

putting this out there, for when the rest of you catch up with him :)

Ranked #931 greatest album on RYM
Little known fact that Argentina had a small but significant jazz scene. Americans would have come across Lalo Schiffrin doing tv theme songs and Gato Barbieri who did the music for Last tango in Paris both of whom moved to the US.

This issue is the American release from 1977 (original 1971) where they cut out all the spoken word bits and instead of translating title to “Anger Buenos Aires” they retitled it “Love Buenos Aires” and totally changed the cover.

Just not a huge fan of spoken word but should upgrade to at least a reissue faithful to the original I guess

Richard & Linda Thompson - Shoot Out The Lights

Tracey Thorn reminded me of this album and it's been awhile since I've given it a listen.  And as a sign of who best of lists have evolved both this and "I Want To See The Bright Lights Tonight" used to routinely show up on such lists.

I tried and tried with Shoot out the lights but it does nothing for me.
Pretty much like all Richard Thompson

About 1990 rolling stone published a best albums of the 1980s list - this was before listmania- and it was on it.

I remember London Calling was #1.

Recorded at the Royal Theater in Baltimore (1963) which was demolished in 1971. Used to be at 1329 Pennsylvania Ave. It was what the Howard was for DC.

Honestly this doesn’t sound any worse than Live at the Apollo - recorded one year previous- which gets all the hype….maybe cause this came afterwards but nobody ever mentions it. Boy is Apollo over hyped. It’s a Sonic mess and JB got so much better live!
