I am finally finishing listening to Deerhunter's catalog (all LPs, EP's, Fluorescent Grey / Oh, It's Such a Shame - Single, and Living Bridge song After Class) in Chronological order, in preparation for tonight, my first time seeing them live.
Notes:
Turn It Up, F@ggot! - Somehow I had never heard this before. I enjoyed it. I will definitely need to listen to it more times but my first impression was that it was a pretty solid debut.
Cryptograms - I do not know why I always thought this was their first album... Weird. I love this album and it is why I originally became a fan. Too bad they do not seem to play tracks off of it live at the moment.
Fluorescent Grey - I always loved this EP. The titular track is one of my favorites.
Microcastle - I still love this one. I probably can sing along to more songs on this than any of the other albums. I am glad they still play a few of these live.
Weird Era Cont. - I love this one. I know it is a bit different than other releases, and I think that is why I really love it.
Rainwater Cassette Exchange - Solid EP. This also marks the end of my fandom. I did not see them live before this time, and after 2009 I was not that impressed with their output and that leads me to...
Halcyon Digest - I enjoyed it more than I remembered, but still think it is not as great as their earlier run.
Monomania - Some flashes of brilliance, some not so much. Probably my least favorite release.
Fading Frontier - Today I listened to it for the second time. I think it is my favorite since their 2007-2009 era. I am glad they are playing a chunk of them tonight.
Final thoughts: Great band on record. Diverse releases. Not afraid to change but still keep some elements throughout. I hope tonight for a great show.
