I'm hesitant to admit it, but the radio gets turned WAY UP when her single comes on.

My favorites of the year so far:

 Bjork, "Volta"
 Lucinda Williams, "West"
 LCD Soundsystem, "Sound of Silver"
 Nine Inch Nails, "Year Zero"
 The Frames, "Cost"
 Arcade Fire, "Neon Bible"
The Sly and the Family Stone Boxset is AWESOME,
 and y'know what...

 Tori Amos, "American Doll Posse".
Woof.

In no specific order:
 Arcade Fire - Neon Bible
 Feist - The Reminder
 Elliott Smith - New Moon

I also have high hopes for Wilco, National, and New Pornographers, among others.

I've never been afraid to admit it, and I'll go as far as to say that this is her best to date.  Nonstop fun pop.

I've lost respect for both of you.  I've heard a lot of music and that song is the most trite, annoying, repulsive piece of music I may have ever heard.  It serves no purpose.  It's not ironic, fun/ironic or fun.  "She's like, so, 'whatever?!?!?!'"  It makes "Stars are Blind" sound like the next Radiohead single.

Believe me Brian, if I was looking for respect, this is not where I'd be looking for it.

I rarely get on somebody for their music tastes, save for a few select testesterone laiden tastes that appeal to angry teen agers/pretend to be angry frat boys (more like bent up sexual desires).  Otherwise, to each her own, and if I want to get ready in the morning dancing around in my underwear to Avril Lavigne because that's what puts a smile on my face, I can only hope that you have such a morning exercise that puts such a smile on your face.

I'm with Vansmack.  I always had a bit of animosity toward Avril for the so-forced-it-hurts anti-establishment stand she has, so it was always my little secret that I loved "Sk8er Boi."  But now, I just can't hide it any longer: "Girlfriend" is a fun ass song.  There's no underwear dancing...but they is some severe steering wheel drumming.

So are you guys saying it's one of the best albums of the year, or a fun album that you like a few cuts off of, or the single or whatever?  Guilty pleasure aside are you saying that as of May 10, 2007 this is one of the best things to be released thus far?  I only ask because I haven't listened to it, saw her on SNL and thought well I'm sure this is what her audience likes, for better or worst she's doing what she does.  But if you're portraying it as a critical masterpiece perhaps I'll give it listen, I'd like to think I was open minded enough.  But is that what you're actually saying?

Another stealth pick that grows with repeated listens, not sure it'll win them any new fans but it's very solid indeed.
