Granted, I'm not paying a Rolling Stones-like price, thank goodness. But purchasing concert tickets has never really been fan-friendly.
True, but considering what a tough ticket this is, a few extra bucks for 5 minutes of pointing and clicking is money well-spent, IMHO.  I'd almost argue that buying tickets is generally easier and more convenient than ever.

I plan on selling my extra pair at face value, plus the service fees that I paid for all four. That's ethical, aint it?

My wife says I should sell them for as much as I can get for them.

hell yeah, it's much easier. remember the days of hitting redial when the phone was your only option. or lining up at ticketmaster just to get a wristband so you could come back the next day, stand in line, and then get a ticket?

fuck that, online ticketing is the best!

and certain venues policies of buying tickets in person at the venue for a $1 or $2 fee is fabulous.

That's crazy, generally and for this show specifically.  Wilco is obviously wildly popular, and the tickets were only $25.  The price of taking a date to the moves and SHARING a popcorn.   Or you could see half a play at Arena Stage or Shakespeare Theater.  WAY fair to me, as nearly every show at 9:30 is...

Excellent question!!

As a rule of thumb, if I have friends that want the tickets, I wouldn't ask for more than cost.  If not, then I don't think there is anything unethical about selling them to a stranger for the current market price.

And I think online ticketing is infinitely more fair then the old system.  The old way, the guy running the ticketmaster machine was probably getting something under the table from a broker to keep the best seats aside.  Also, many of the people in line were probably working as a line-sitter for a broker.  Not to mention the hours of time you had to invest in trying to get tickets for a popular show.  I'll gladly pay a $5 premium to sit at the comfort of my desk and hit the refresh button a few times.

Having recently become a homeowner, and trying to furnish it will old hand me down one bedroom apartment furniture, I'm thinking we need the money of the market value more than any of our friends need to see Wilco for a third or fourth time.

Besides, if you're really a fan and you really want to see them, just drive to Pittsburgh and see them for free.

as for ripping people off, no-ones 'making' them buy the tickets above face value, if they value the transcendental experience of a live Wilco concert enough to pay an exorbitant price, by all means let them do so

 makes sense to me

Why rip off real fans more than they're already getting ripped off?

Bands should track down these a-holes and revoke tickets.  I'm sure Wilco loves the fact that your ripping of their fans.

I'll bet they really don't care. The money that a scalper is making pales in comparison the what the band is making itself.
