You must not go to many, if any, metal shows. Not that I go to very many myself, as my tastes in metal are very particular, but I'd say that what I saw of the crowd there was actually pretty tame. It's funny you should say that about how what you were wearing made you stand out, because there have been a couple times I've actually purposely dressed completely opposite of what you're "supposed" to look like when going to a metal show.
