Yeah, the whole thing sounded weak I thought. It was like that on the radio too. I kept wondering if we were hearing some watered down unmastered pre-release. I heard it on HFS so I'm not too sure they would chance airing something all that questionable unless they got an okay from the label. But those labels are slooowly understanding the power of the leaks, so you never know.

I saw them opening for Stellastarr* and Ambulance LTD once...actually twice, since I went to Alley Katz and The Black Cat for that tour.  We left laughing at how bad they were.

I still can't believe they got big enough to sell out Merriweather.

Ha!  I was at that Alley Katz show.  Didn't see the Killers though; had no idea who they were.

What's so amusing about this song to me is that its exactly what he said it was going to be: new wave-ish Bruce Springsteen.

 I think I hate it.

I will say that the first five tracks on "Hot Fuss" were pretty awesome.

Can Stellastarr or Ambulance LTD sell out Merriweather?

Actually, everyone has been pretty consistent in their opinions.

Here's the daily flashback post.  This one is from Relaxer, circa August 2004:

It's like cotton candy, sounds real good at the time, but am I going to listen to it again past September? Nah... They opened for the (absolutely amazing, breathtaking, going-to-take-over-the-world-eventually) Stellastarr and they were very good, particularly the singer who has a good strong voice and the right look (although his whole my-life-of-constant-empty-sex-is-so-boring attitude gets a little tiresome). One of their songs, probably either 'Somebody Told Me' or 'Mr. Brightside', will be the breakout song on a soundtrack or Fox show, the singer will get a few magazine covers, and then they'll come out with a 'difficult' second album and fade into the musical canvas along with 3rd Eye Blind, Phantom Planet, Remy Zero, the Rembrandts, etc.

I'll admit to being something of a fan of the Killers' "Hot Fuss" album, though I do think there is a certain cotton candy element to their music and haven't listened to their album in nearly a year and haven't missed it. I've also never understood how they got to be bigger than Stellastarr* who I think are way better. I love Relaxer's description of Stellastarr* which echo my own sentiments.

The 40-second snippet that ggw linked to is gag-me-with-a-spoon bad. Awful, awful, awful. Fico's link to the full song is better mixed and is almost bearable if I ignore the lame lyrics.

I was a fan of Hot Fuss, it's just a catchy bunch of tunes.  Nothing wrong with that.  Didn't care for them live though.  Not much personality or musicianship.

I'm fairly confident that the new album will be another batch of catchy pop tunes.  But I don't think a 40 second snippet is a fair way to judge.  I'll wait for the actual release.

Yep, nothing new there. Can't wait for the video, maybe it will be as awesome as the new Panic video of people walking around with fish tanks on their heads, um yeah, I totally understand that whole concept, well, not really, but it's Panic, aren't they like the new Killers?*

*written under extreme trauma from thinking about the Killers and Panic simultaneously, head about to combust.
