I'm not sure what emo is either, but I've read that this was one of the first emo records.  I know it doesn't suck.  Therefore, I pick this as an emo album that does not suck.

Dear You is the only emo record that you need to own. I got addicted to it before I even knew what emo was, and I'm glad that I was oblivious. The whole label thing is just so lame. It's a great record from start to finish, 'nuff said. I remember buying it new at HMV in Georgetown for like $5.99 and then being totally floored after about the third listen. I got to see Jawbreaker at the Black Cat and it wasn't a really happy kind of show (as is often the case when a band is on the verge or breaking up). Just glad that I got to see them play at least once.
