Actually, I've met him a few times and he is always really kind of upbeat and outgoing. So was Adam...Chris (the bass player) was the miserable one. Not sure anyone ever caught the interview they did in Punk Planet a few years ago, that pretty much clued you in to what was what. They were a really good band, and they also knew how to rock too.

I seriously am unsure about what emo is really.  Can someone just list 100 or so emo bands from the emo period and I'll just pick which ones I think are OK?

they were tagged as emo in the mid-to-late 90s, which seems kind of right ... a lot of indie rock from that period, especially from the pacific northwest (modest mouse is a good example), was getting the emo label

after mainstream pop-punk (and even metal) co-opted "emo", it doesn't make much sense at all

the first show i saw at the old black cat was a sold-out jets to brazil gig ... listening to them now, the lyrics are really embarrassing

wow, i listened to a lot of these albums in the first few years after college, I think i have to dig them out and re-rip them since they didnt survive my hard drive crash, I have already listened to the promise ring all afternoon and the two albums sounded great

Get Up Kids and Jimmy Eat World.  I heard they're emo, not sure what it means (wouldn't Morrissey be emo?), but I love both bands, power pop girl that I am.

i'm still ridiculously fond of the alkaline trio's
"maybe i'll catch fire" but i can't listen to anything of theirs after that.

I third that, one of the greatest punk records of all time.  Save some of Sunny Day Real Estate's material I have no use for the fruity sweater-wearing 90's bands that fell under the tag of "emo".

Whoo, and eMusic has six Get Up Kids albums!  (I've already got 4, which is enough for me...)

Bags, you can skip Wood/Water, and probably anything the Get Up Kids did after Something To Write Home About.

 Not an album, per se...

I went back and listened to "Orange Rhyming Dictionary" by Jets to Brazil a while back. I used to think there were some decent songs on it, but upon reflection, it pretty much sucks.
