Not to always play devils advocate, but if you look at the lyrics to even their best songs they are a bit shitey/not as good as greenday.

 Today is the greatest
 Day I â??ve ever kown
 Canâ??t live for tomorrow
 Tomorrowâ??s much too long
 I burn my eyes out
 Before I get out

 I wanted more
 Than life could ever grant
 Bored by the chore
 Of saving face

 Today is the greatest
 Day I have ever known
 Canâ??t wait for tomorrow
I might not have that long
 Iâ??ll tear my heart out
 Before I get out

 Pink ribbon scars
 That never forget
 Iâ??ve tried so hard
 To cleanse these regrets
 My angel wings
 Were bruised and restrained
 My belly stings

 Today is
 Today is
 Today is
 The greatest day
 That I have ever known

I want to turn you on
I want to turn you round
I want to turn you on
 I want to turn you

 Today is the greatest
 Today is the greatest day
 Today is the greatest day
 That I have ever known

Have you ever heard a dumber lyric? If he's a rat in a cage, why live in a house at all? Just go live in the jungle....or the sewer.

Hey...I'm not saying Bald Billy is the Bob Dylan of the flannel set. I just don't see success as a reason to discount anyone.

But I will agree that going to see Billy do poetry doesn't meet my idea of entertainment. At least Jewel has nice hoohoos to gaze at. Billy just has all that scalp. Ick.  :)

To be honest, I saw them on the Gish tour and found them unlistenable and unwatchable. So I've tried to avoid them since then. I really don't see much difference between arena "alternative" rockers like Smashing Pumpkins and the arena rock bands that they were supposedly an alternative to.

cause all great songs, have great lyrics

Oh yeah, I'll tell you something,
 I think you'll understand.
 When I'll say that something
I want to hold your hand,
I want to hold your hand,
I want to hold your hand.

 Oh please, say to me
You'll let me be your man
 And please, say to me
You'll let me hold your hand.
Now let me hold your hand,
I want to hold your hand.

And when I touch you I feel happy inside.
It's such a feeling that my love
 I can't hide, I can't hide, I can't hide.

 Yeah, you've got that something,
 I think you'll understand.
 When I'll say that something
I want to hold your hand,
I want to hold your hand,
I want to hold your hand.

And when I touch you I feel happy inside.
It's such a feeling that my love
 I can't hide, I can't hide, I can't hide.

 Yeh, you've got that something,
 I think you'll understand.
 When I'll feel that something
I want to hold your hand,
I want to hold your hand,
I want to hold your hand.

Sonick,

I believe we were talking about lyrics.

Dont go and do a Rhett and lose the point of the argument and go off on an almost random tangent so as to not be defeated.

all i was saying that a lot of people would say that the Beatles have great lyrics. however, taking a one hit song sample of thier lyrics show that some of thier songs had really simple ones, yet both songs (Today and Hold Your Hand) were wildly successful and to be honest, if you were my age (for Today) would hold fond memories for you. (and Hold Your Hand for people like my parents)

 howzat random?

No, the Baltimore City Paper deciphered it for me. I remember reading a review for the Rat in the Cage album in the Baltimore City Paper from the mid/late? 90's which tore that album to shreds, and delighted in mocking the lyrics to that song. It was an awesomely funny review. Wish I still had a copy.

I have a habit of uttering stupid phrases over and over. Some of them I even steal from other people.

Like when the Maz uttered "His foot was on the bag, Joe."

My wife comes up with some good ones too. She is always telling me she wants to "reconnect with your hairy balls."

Perhaps you could counter with some good Smashing Pumpkins lyrics? Well you could if there were some  :p
