I think it is safe to say I would only go if it were free. But a number of bands peak my interest. As does hanging out in the back bar and getting drunk. Course, you do have to get home somehow....

Let's make that a monorail with a bike path underneath!
 hmm... drunk biking...

i too think i'll go if i get free tickets, but the sheer cost of taking time off work is keeping me from buying them.  To be realistic, one would have to take nearly a half-day off on Friday to catch this show.  Suck.

How about a bike trail the whole way from Pittsburgh to D.C.?!
 Oh wait...we already have that.

I'm not understanding why so many folks think you have to take a whole day or half day off for this show...I work downtown, we're leaving at 4:00 (unless I can get someone to leave at 3:00 with me), we'll be there before 5:00, and no bands have even started yet.

perhaps not everyone works at the same place (or the same hours) as you.  I know ppl who work 10am-6pm or even 11am-7pm.  Depending on where you are driving from its going to take more than 1 hour to get from door to door on a Friday afternoon!

Also, some people can only take either a 1/2 or whole day from work, not just a couple hours here or there.

is that hard to understand?  not everyone lives in "bags' world"

Ouch, I just can't not piss you off, can I...I was actually asking a real question, why so many seemed to think you needed a whole half day off.  I work 9:30 - 6:30 myself, but taking two hours is allowable (didn't know about the half or whole day issue).

Seemed, though, like a lot of folks believed you had to leave super early (in other threads and on other boards) -- Merriweather is way better than Nissan for getting in and parking, and it's actually midway for the B'more folks.  I guess it's working in my world so I should just shut up.

you didnt piss me off, i just wanted to point out that we all have different schedules. Hell, some of my friends (bartenders and such) would have to take off work altogether! and on a friday night, thats pricey!

just giving you a friendly heads up of the other people in the world besides you  :)

I think a lot of people are concerned about traffic.   I think an hour to get from downtown out to MPP may be a bit optimistic on a Friday night.

Speaking of, I haven't been in a while -- what's the best way to get there from downtown?

The directions from the  website all take you on 495 and I-95; can this be avoided?

From the Washington DC area and points South:
Take DC Beltway 495 to I-95 North towards Baltimore.
 Proceed 16.2 miles.
Merge onto MD-32 West exit 38B toward Columbia.
Exit onto Rt. 29 North, exit 16A.
Take the Broken Land Parkway North exit towards Merriweather.
Do not take the Broken Land Parkway exit you see earlier while on MD-32 West.
 Merge onto Broken Land Parkway.
Turn right at first stoplight into Main Parking Area.

Alternate route from the Washington DC area:
Take DC Beltway 495 to I-95 North towards Baltimore.
Pass exit 38B, go two more exits.
 Exit onto Route 100 West.
 Proceed to Route 29 South.
Turn right onto South Entrance Road.
Turn left onto Symphony Woods Road.
 Follow to Main Parking Area.

I usually take New York Avenue to BW Parkway and get off at the Columbia exit. But on a Friday afternoon it can be quite busy as I found a couple of years ago for the Depeche Mode concert.

You could take 29-North all the way instead of 95/495. That's what I plan on doing.  There will still be traffic though.

this is the route i took to the neil young show and drove right into the parking lot...  in theory you'll avoid some of the dc folks which follow the 29 route and where the bottle neck typically is.

then again seeing as you can get row kk in the center the show is selling kinda slow

Actually, if you come from the south and ignore this:

you can avoid 29 altogether.  I used that route all the time when I lived up there.

It's probably selling pretty well.  There were only Lawn tickets available for a couple of weeks. I imagine the pavilion is gonna be full by showtime.
