Life of Pi (Spoilers)
« on: May 11, 2005, 11:33:00 am »
Dont read this if you plan on reading the book.

I know several of you here have read it, just wanted to take a quick poll.

Which story would you choose to believe, the one with animals or the one without.

I would choose the one without, which surprisingly doesnt seem to be the popular choice.

How would a hollywood director handle it in the filmed version?  Somebody like Michael Bey, for instance?

i am pretty sure the filmed version will be bad, I believe M Night Shyamalan will be directing it

my guess is the second story will be revealed  in a similar style to the end of the usual suspects

Well without is the truth.  With was a symbolic way for him to deal with what happened.  The animal story is more engaging (look how many more pages it takes up) and that is why I prefer it.  Imagine how short the book would be if it was just the second story.

I am sorry, but then they are idiots.  Seriously, the way the story happened to think somehow four animals would make it to the lifeboat but only one human?  Nah.  It just doesn't make sense that way.

Things don't have to make sense to be true but I think Fight Club works here where Tyler says that he didn't invent someone with a boring life.  So which story would you expect to be invented, the easy one that you could easily see happening or the complex one?

I am not really sure how to view that part of the book.  It came so out of left field to me.

i saw it as the french cook because on the island he got healthier because of the abundance of food, like he would if he ate the cook and one day he realized what he was doing and was disgusted, or in other words, he found the man eating tree with the human teeth

I would choose the one without.  I thought it was a great kick in the ass at the end of the book.  The whole book, I was thinking, this is crazy, this couldn't have happened.  Then, I started to believe it.  At the end, I felt stupid that I believed the animal version.

Hey, I just watched a DVD called The Life of Pee.  Do you think it was based upon that book???  If so, then that book musk rawk!  I give it two thumbs.

A spoiler: There was a lot of water, and farm animals were involved too...
