That's cool, but can you "officially" turn down the trade so it leaves my screen. I'd still be interested in working some sort of trade, especially if you need a center or left winger.

Burk plans to protest new NHL ad campaign

 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
 ESPN.com news services

The NHL's new advertising campaign is getting attention, but not the kind it was likely hoping for.

According to a report from The Canadian Press, Martha Burk, the chair of the National Council of Women's Organizations, said she intends to write letters of protest to the NHL and NBC over the NHL's new ad campaign, which is set to begin next week.

The first spot, titled "It's Time," shows a player (an actor, not an NHL player) in a locker room, surrounded by candles and accompanied by a woman who ceremoniously helps him don his hockey garb. The ads feature quotes from Sun Tzu's "The Art of War" along with dramatic camera work and music reminiscent of the film "Braveheart."

Burk told The Canadian Press that the ad is "offensive on many levels."

"The woman is dressed provocatively and when she asks the player if he's ready, it's a double-entendre in my view," Burk told The CP. "She's in the ad as a groomer, a sex object.

"The commercial is clearly selling sex and violence and the last image in that commercial is a young boy watching this, so he's clearly the customer they're after, or it's a misguided attempt to draw in families."

NHL spokeswoman Bernadette Mansur told The Canadian Press that was not the case.

"This ad shows no disrespect for women," Mansur told The CP. "On the contrary, the woman is the spiritual and physical trainer for the 'Warrior' and is his mentor."

Players, league personnel and media attended the unveiling of the campaign at The Museum of Television and Radio in Manhattan on Wednesday night.

The ads were conceived by a company called Conductor, an entertainment marketing company that has contributed to campaigns for "Spider-Man" and Green Day music videos.

For the NHL, the team created a series of commercials and print ads that will be released next week. The commercials will be packaged in a five-part story that will unfold through February.

I'll take the consistancy of scorers over the hot-and-cold shutouts of Luongo any day. You and me, sonick, we're going to be battling it out once Mr. All-my-points-come-from-my-goalies falls by the wayside.

Oh, that Savaard for Zetterberg trade is negotiable if you've changed your opinion at all on it.

maybe, Savard is playing well, but was that just the two games against the Crapitals?

oh and Gaborik and Whitney are on IR, did you know that you can place them on your IR and pick up two more guys?

you'll have to drop them when they come off IR but you are allowed to have 2 players on IR.

    just a handy hint  ;)

and i just picked up Ovechkin, who will be picking up the Calder trophy this year.

your team has 21 goals. mine has 17. i'm lagging in assists, yes, but that won't last. i sense a little luongo-envy...

Luongo is a great goalie (maybe the best fantasy goalie this year), but he's going to have, what, 8 shutouts and go 40 and 30? Do the math on that with our points system, then compare it to a top scorer.

yes, i realize that the scoring system is set up so that a goalie will have to have one of the all-time great seasons in history to be even one of the top 25 players, but i'm still at a huge competitive advantage w/luongo and hasek over patrick lalime and the edmonton dudes. but i will say i've never played a points system fantasy league before, so it might take me a little while to get used to it and figure out the quirks.

but ask smackie if you think it will be easy to dispose of me.

Yes, my goalies suck, but when we only dress 2, even the biggest advantage your two are going to give you over mine, I'm thinking, will be negated by the fact I just roll offensive juggernauts out there.

Question - can I change who I dress daily, or once I dress someone are they dressed for a week or whatever?

you can change it daily, you can set it each day in advance as well
