The Whiteness

 Article and Pictures

WONKY-toothed JUSTIN HAWKINS has been told to get his gnashers fixed if he wants THE DARKNESS to make it in the States.

US bosses at Atlantic Records reckon the Lowestoft lads can make a huge impact in America ?? provided their frontman gets his teeth whitened and straightened.

Americans like their stars with perfect pearly whites ?? and as you can see from the close-up shot Justin??s are a bit yellow and crooked.

With a bit of computer wizardry we show you how he might look with a Hollywood smile.

Atlantic have contacted the band??s UK record company East West saying he must sort out his smile before their US promotional tour starting on March 26.

But it??s thought the rebel glam- rocker will be outraged at the prospect of cosmetic work and refuse.

An insider at East West said: ??The Americans are really blowing up about the whole Darkness thing.

??They think they can easily be the hottest band in America by this time next year.

??The only snag they can see is with Justin??s looks, particularly his teeth. Because Americans are used to their stars having perfectly straight teeth, they don??t think Justin??s unique set of chompers will make him a pin-up.

??He hasn??t been told yet and they are devising ways to break it to him.

??He won??t like it one little bit and I don??t reckon there??s a chance in hell that he??ll agree.?

Justin, famed for his wavy locks and skin-tight catsuits, is fiercely proud of his unique identity and has always refused to conform to marketing men in smart suits.

That attitude is part of the band??s huge appeal and us Brits love him all the more for his unconventional looks.

But the Americans are adamant he visits a Los Angeles dentist before The Darkness tour the Deep South.

Justin, his brother DAN, FRANKIE POULLAIN and ED GRAHAM will be performing on numerous television and radio stations as well as a number of small venues across the US.

The tour follows the success of their debut album Permission To Land in the States ?? it has just gone gold there, shifting 500,000 copies.

The Darkness are expected to take the Yanks by storm ?? providing Justin believes in a thing called dentistry, of course.

With his choppers fixed he looks just like Tommy Shaw of Styx.

What is Tommy reading now, BTW..?  Enquiring minds want to know.
