BB are a great live band, but I'm not liking the new album so much. Their previous release, Fall of the Plastic Empire, is great. [/b]

I had wanted to go to this gig (and had planned on it) but alas, I have been ill all day, and am still not better - so I am going to sleep now, instead of heading out.  :(

Wish I were feeling better. :/

I have an inkling tonight will be a stellar night!  Can't wait to read the reviews in this thread, though I will probably be jealous for missing out. (sigh)  ;)

 Cheers

Got upstairs around 9:15pm and Elkland had already started. They were okay, but I couldn't get past the lead singer's hair. They looked so preppy. They ended their set with a dance-pop version of the Cranberries' "Salvation."

Ambulance arrived way late. There was about an hour between Elkland and Ambulance. I think they had van trouble, got lost or something. They got on stage around 10:55pm. It literally looked as if they just rolled up with guitars in hand because they started playing a shortly after hitting the stage.

They played 5 songs: Heavy Lifting, Primitive, Stay Where You Are, blanking on the fourth song and they ended with Yoga Means Union.

By then, it was about 11:15, so I decided to head home.

then what's the point............?

diego is a superior godlike being and elefant are great on stage, everything you expect and want in a rock band right down to the posturing........and just how tight were his trousers?  phew i like to know a man's religion in the first five seconds on seeing him.

 ambulance were terrifically average...........

i think ambulance got screwed with their set. elefant was around and easily could have gone on first and then ambulance after them. the guys couldn't even do a proper soundcheck and then had to cut their set in half. and it was glaringly apparent that the crowd wanted them on stage for longer and they wanted to play for their fans. itwasn't their intention to get caught in traffic trying to get out of massachusetts.

they've been a support act too long. its time for them to headline their own tour.

But looking at those two bands, would anyone stick around for Ambulance after Elefant had played?

"Yoga Means Union" was fantastic, but I really love that song.  The rest was good, but not great.  Maybe it was the travel, but there was some energy missing...I felt for the guys, though.  The Club wanted to change the order, but obviously were told they couldn't.  Ambulance will be back in Oct at the 9:30 so they'll have another chance and a longer set.

Elefant was quite entertaining, I must say.  And as ego-driven as Diego is, he does give props to his band and stand back and let them get a bit of spotlight during a bridge here and there.  Good drummer, I like how they use it.  Monday shows are SUCH a killer though...especially when they run late.

Yup, I think they would have...a lot of folks were there specifically to see Ambulance.  I know you preferred Elefant, but the Ambulance album has been getting a lot of play, so people would stick around.  Through the whole set, that late -- that's another question.

Great show! I know Elefant and Ambulance could have switched slots, but hey, Ambulance should have been on time.  Their short set was great though.  Maybe I'll check'em out again when they open for the Killers.

Also, even though Diego is an absolute prima donna who cribs all of Morrissey's stage mannerisms, he is a captivating front man and elefant was stunning as I expected. Does anyone remember when elefant was hanging out with Interpol at the Black Cat after their 930 show last year.  Diego promised to do a shot with me and he bitched out.  Then came last call and all the hip rockstars got sent out just like the rest of us normal folk. Classic.

Amazing night.  Glad I went and stayed for the whole thing.  Now I got to get a cup of coffee.

I think he has more Richard Butler than Moz (though a little of the balletic fluidity of Moz)...a few of his gestures were bugging me -- waving hello during the chorus "hello, hello" and talking/singing "thank you, thank you..." near the end of the set.  But, way better than the standing still deal exhibited by so many other lead singers.  He was cool, and did get better looking as the set went on.  What's with the hair, though?  And his bandmates follow his lead -- the bass player had this "shaggy but actually highly styled" doo that was just awful.

I know, Lulu, you like that squiffy hair look.  I think it just looks messy (and at one point he messed it up more, I thought 'contrived,' but you probably thought 'sexy'!).  I appreciated him, though, I really did!    ;)
