just because something is illegal doesn't mean we should be automatons about it. for me, just being illegal is rarely enough to motivate me to not do something. are all ALL of your MP3s legal? ever smoked a cuban cigar, or (gasp) consumed drugs? do you speed or run an occasional red light or stop sign? these are all illegal, yet we do them.
i do support stronger laws on illegal immigration, and i'm not blind to the social costs incurred by illegals. what i'm against is how the argument is presented and the associations made with illegals. it's badly-veiled xenophobia for the most part. having spoken with more than my share of anti-illegal types, i saw an abnormal obsession with kicking out illegals to the point of calling for gestapo-like campaigns of rounding people up by gun-point and throwing them in the back of a truck in the middle of the night. armed Minutemen taking the law into their own hands. the belief that once illegals are gone, all of this country's problems will be solved. so much blind hatred.
guess what's going to happen to the price of fruits and vegetables if we don't get a decent guest-worker program going... there is no way we're getting enough legals to work picking fruit at $3.50 an hour.
