it would make perfect sense for this show to be moved to the mainstage. maybe all those that got shut out of the b&s show will go to this show instead. i don't wanna show up early and still not get in. hopefully 8 will be early enough.

Great show.  I called the Velvet Lounge and turned out that Arlo was having problems and would probably go on last (meaning midnight or so), so I took a shot and went by the Black Cat.  So happy I did.  Really liked the Decemberists.  The Joggers were fun too -- did some pretty interesting whippenpoof-type rounds singing and harmonies.

Okay, back to the Decemberists.  So any of you know the Whitlams from Australia?  The similarities (especially Colin Meloy's vocals) are almost uncanny.

Decemberists were great, not the setlist I would have picked, but they were still great, they could have played 2 more hours and I would not have been bored.

Did not like the Joggers though.

Then went over to velvet lounge to see arlo, and after sitting through 2 songs by the awful opener arlo came on stage to about 5 people.  Apparently everyone there before was there for the local band, and they all left before Arlo.  Arlo only played about half an hour until one of the guitarists broke the same string on two guitars and they called it quits.  What they played was good though, although they did not get to playing Culture.

Here is the Post on the Joggers:

HAS THE WORLD RUN OUT of good band names? The Joggers make you wonder. But if this Portland, Ore., quartet has botched the easy part of starting a group -- a handle that grabs -- it's done remarkable work on the hard part, namely, recording a mighty fine debut album. You know something interesting is happening from the first track, "Loosen Up," a jangly, drumless tune that summons the spirit of Pink Floyd's early years, when the famously loony Syd Barrett was in charge. The rest of "Solid Guild" is fleeter and feels like state-of-the-art college rock, with beats that stutter and surge on a dime, plus lots of splintered guitars. Ignore the silly name: These guys know what they're doing.
That description bears no resemblance to the band that opened for the Decemberists last night.

The Decemberists were excellent, cramped space and all.  I thought it was appropriate that a band that sings shanties about Turkish prostitutes, lonely widows and "chimbley" sweeps would have a singer that still looked peaked with the flu and a guitar player on crutches.

 Good to meet brennser.

Lets see.....

Poorlulu, I am glad you liked your picture..... You can barely even see the pretty one in it.

Brennser, It was nice meeting you. Next time you are alone for a show we should meet up. Hopefully next time you wont catch me fondling GGW and Jadetree.

I thought the joggers singer couldnt sing, but he sounded ok when they went accapella. Maybe they sound better in a better space? I really doubt it though.

The decemberists did a great job. The guy said that hopefully they will be back in March. I will need to think of some better heckles by then. Apparently how is your camel is no good.

But why oh why did they play such a short set and avoid two of their most obvious songs?

Seeing Arlo afterward was an added bonus. I felt sorry for them having such a small crowd. I was glad we made the effort. They sounded better than before though, although as seems to be their wont, they only managed six songs before falling apart.

I am so impressed with you.  I *almost* did it, almost went to Velvet, but I started to worry about my work day today.  I'm an ass.  Hope they come through again soon.

Wish I'd known y'all were there!  It was a last minute decision for me, though.  Another time.  Did either of you make a spectacle in any way?  (Though I was back near the door for Decemberists -- didn't feel the need to push up, so I could only see Colin and the bassist).

Bought both CDs after the show.

I forgot, I almost pissed myself when they did the squeeze cover........ I love up the junction, next time I will be heckling goodbye girl.

Best of all was I lent Jadetree (who am i?) the squeeze hits album, 45's and under, and he just took the piss out of me.
