Why do dudes wear crew neck t-shirts under polo shirts?

i don't know, but i'm disturbed about the trend i've been seeing in georgetown with the kids wearing two polo shirts, each with the collar flipped up.

It's fashionable if one measures by clothes ads. Models have been pictured wearing layered shirts for years. It's all about getting you to buy more shirts than you need.

Yes, I grasp the layered clothing look. But I was specifically talking about the dudes that wear WHITE (forgot to mention that before) crew neck t-shirts underneath their polo shirt, leaving the polo shirt unbuttoned to show off the shiny undershirt.

Mine are shiny when i first take them out of the package. Hanes is usually my brand of choice.
 
 i wear them because they prevent stainage under my dress shirt. though my polos don't seem to retain stainage, so i don't wear them under polos.
 
 i used to wear just the t-shirt with Levis, ala James Dean, until I got too fat to pull off that look.
 
 But i prefer v-neck style, it shows off my manly chest hair...

 I really hate polo shirts, adorned by other t's, collar up or collar down there is always something suspiciously camp about them.

All this collar up/collar down discussion reminds me of my wife and her sister....my sister in law has a three year old son, who she dresses with all the brand names. Anyway, she always puts the collars up on his little polo's, which I think is silly (on anyone) but it bugs my wife to no end, so she would put his little collar down, then her sister would notice and put it back up, then she'd leave the room and my wife would put it back down again. This goes on for the whole day and the little tyke thinks it's the funniest game.

they do 36 inch waist jeans..... If you cannot get into them, you are clearly not of the right image to wear them. It makes perfect sense.
