nils frahm - late night tales
very cool mix (he calls it 'sound sculpture') of familiar and new (to me) artists.
bonus points for treatment of nina simone's "who knows where the time goes".
some miles/gil evans in there too (sorry hutch).
his dad was a photographer for the ecm label.
it's just easier to enjoy this one on cd.

Last night I was blazed and drunk and put on the new Duran Duran album as a lark and damned if it wasn't a great listen. Those guys are so weird.

they, really if you think about it, have been a solid band for years and years with songs that always make you go, ahhh, duran, duran.

The new album is fantastic, and folks are always amazed at the number of Duran Duran songs they actually know.  I tried desperately to buy 20 tickets to their show at the Greek and call it the Rehearsal Dinner but was shot down pretty forcefully.  Alas I will be missing them this tour.
