Per BrooklynVegan........

COME ON SETH..........
-
Yeah I read this...
I wonder if it even makes sense financially.. I mean I think its great if they reform to do a charity gig in Central Park..
But if they reform are they going to sell more tickets than they did 10 years ago? They were always playing the 930 club.. never made it out of there..
Has their audience grown since then? Malkmus does pretty well by himself and they'd have to split hte money five or six ways if they reformed.. Unless they can make the jump to a Merriweather or more likely DAR I don't see it...
Maybe...
-
....or maybe money isn't the only reason behind it.
Regardless, this reunion would be a large festival draw, so I'd say it makes sense. However, that article doesn't really give any information beyond speculation.
-
Could Pavement play DAR or Merriweather for their first shows in 11 years? Yes. Would they play those same venues the second tour after reformation? Nope.
-
dog shit is on the pavement. and you clean it up . . . but the stain and smell are still there.
-
Until they come back and crush a Slanted & Enchanted from-start-to-finish set ala the Pixies and Doolittle!

Its official.. tickets go on presale tomorrow apparently? One year before show?

couldn't pavement make a ton of cash on the festival circuit, and then tour almost for the fun of it?
that said, there seems to be a lot of pent up demand for this

I'd cry if they played DAR.
-
Agreed - not sure what local venue I'm rooting for.
I could go for a three night run @ 9:30, personally.............

930 Club is the one and only place they should play.

-
yeh.. more like 54...
went ahead and got a ticket anyways even though i'm confident they'll be announcing more dates. better safe than sorry.
-
In 1999, I paid $18...hmmm, I'm not so excited about this.

ha...i go way back with pavement... ;)
maybe the ones who bought their central park tickets are the hipsters...(only going because everyone else is, not because they actually enjoy listening to pavement :-*

Hey, does anyone actually give two fucks about "how far back" anyone of us goes with Pavement? Jesus christ, it's the most annoying boring bullshit I read on this board.

My hatred of Pavement goes all the way back to 19 fucking eighty-eight.
-
Now THAT'S some street cred.
Also, can we retire the word "hipster", or at least get a board-approved working definition? So far, I've figured out that you're a hipster if you like a band with hype. Or if you hate a band that's hyped. If you like a band that's not hyped. Or if you have a band that's not hyped. I think as long as I listen to mainstream radio I'm safe.
Julian, you're the best wordsmith here...care to take a stab?

AWESOME:
1) i hope a lot of scalpers get stuck with tickets, so i can pick one up on the way in for half price,
2) i hope they add a fourth show on friday - more likely yo make that one

Sweet looks like you got your wish a fourth show has been added

Why don't they just play the whole month now ;D
-
these shows are a YEAR away... i'd feel nervous buying tickets for something that far in the future, with a band known for its volatility.
like i said, i'm holding off. i don't even know where i'll be next year and how feasible it will be to catch this show in NYC. i'm counting on others being in the same situation so i can get tickets from them.
-
i got a ticket to the tuesday night show along with a pretty big group of friends. the same group of us also saw superchunk too :) most people i know are die-hard pavement fans who got tix, but most of you would prob throw us in with the hipster crowd too.
assuming im in nyc, im going to make sure im working at summerstage on some of the other dates as well. a win/win for me! :D
-
Apparently there will be another reunion.. can't say it is a surprise really.. but I will be happy to catch a Pavement show or two...

Yesterday was the 25th anniv of S&E and I was hoping for some news like this...I'm going to fanboy the fuck out again.

Hell yes. I actually meant to post about S+E yesterday as well.
Sign me up! Sounds like a natural Anthem show to me!
Edit: I wouldn't count on another reunion any time soon. These rumors are always floating around but Malkmus is too busy doing... well, nothing.
-
well.. maybe not soon..but definitely within the next two years I'd say... its not a rumor as much as Spiral Stairs saying they've agreed to do it..
-
I think Spiral has as much influence over the reunion as I do.

Malkmus will need the reunion as much as the other guys soon.. the last few times he's come to the DC area he's played very small shows.. Did he even sell out the Black Cat last time?
I don't think we'll see any Malkmus solo or band action til next year
-

yes! the opening show no less....Seth...pretty please

not gonna happen til next year at the earliest..probably the year after that..
I think being realistic the best fans can hope for is that Spiral Stairs brings his tour to the east coast in a few months and plays some small place...and that Malkmus decides to take a break from being a stay at home dad to record later this year and tour next year...
