I know it's about two weeks away but let's get it out the way. Who's in? Anyone know the field is going to be set up for the inner circle is it a lottery system? ;D
-
I'm in for Vegas....
-
I'm in.
-
yup - DC, c'ville and vegas.
-
vegas!
-
Im in for DC. any other shows going on this weekend? wanted to see phoenix and maximo park - neither of which are happening now.
-
DC and C'ville for me...
-
In for DC - and am honestly way more excited about seeing Muse.
-
I'm in for C'Ville.
Can anyone confirm how the GA policy will work in terms of getting into the inner ring. Is it purely first-come-first served or is there some sort of lottery.
Thanks!

if i'm not mistaken, the last major tour had two types of ga floor tickets, both of which got you onto the floor, but one had a special code on it the other did not which got you a chance to get into the inner ring, but was still on a first come basis. not sure if they'll do the same this go around.
-
i'll be there. really excited for muse too

On the last tour they scanned floor tickets and randomly let people into the "inner circle". I've heard it's first-come-first-served this time, but can't confirm that. I've got friends going in NYC this week..will post his experience.
-
Another subtlety this time around: the Red Zone GA tickets. Will they grant access to the inner circle?
Given the scale of this production, I'm not convinced that inner circle is necessarily the place to be. Sorta like NIN when they brought all the lights and projections- people on the rail missed half the show.

Why would someone want to see the same exact setlist back to back?
-
Why would someone want to see the same exact setlist back to back?
because they won't.
thanks for playing.
-
i'd still say the zoo tv tour was the best live show production they ever did.

Yes they will, minus maybe a song or two and a "snippet" ending.

It will be more or less the same show, but will it matter if you're a fan? Have you ever watched a movie more than once because you just enjoy it? Couple that with the fact that they only come around every 4-5 years. I'd say see it while you can.

even a song or two different <> "same exact".
eros, love the movie comparison. great explanation.

I've watched a movie more than once, but I don't think I could watch any movie on consecutive nights or twice in the same week. Same goes for a concert. But that's just me.

I'm in...Ch'ville and Vegas too! Excited to see Muse too but not so much for the Black Eyed Peas, eh, maybe I'll be surprised.
Was in the pit at a show over the summer and it IS first come, first served, however, the stage is very high, so depending on what you want to get out of the experience and/or how tall/short you are, it may or may not be for you. I plan to be there.
If you follow the Going Out Gurus chat on WaPo they are going to cover the logistical details in Thursday's chat. Probably just metro and traffic stuff. Then I'm sure they'll post a lukewarm review in the Style section later in the week.

agreed.

I will be there! Hopefully the traffic will not make me miss Muse. I think I am more excited about hearing Muse play on a crazy loud system.
-
GA field tickets on ticketmaster...$55 with fees = $75.
-
I got a field how early is everyone showing up?? ;D Also anyone know if you can take vienna metro out to fedex field?
-
I'll be there as well... set times, please?

i have seats so wont show up til close to showtime. metro says it will close morgan station at 1am but not sure it that applies to all the stations.
saw this on wmata.com ...
Public Transportation Schedule
Want to avoid the hassle of driving? Then hop on the Metro. Just take the Blue Line to the Morgan Boulevard Metro Station. Exit onto the sidewalk, which will be on your right side after exiting the Metro gates, opposite the parking lot exit. Follow the sidewalk for less than a mile to FedExField. Utilize Metro Trip Planner at www.wmata.com to plan your trip to FedExField from your closest Metro station or Metro bus stop.

wow - do muse play for an hour?
-
From the setlists, it looks like they play about 10 songs. Not bad. What time is everyone leaving? We are leaving Bethesda at 4.
-
Heads up to anyone going back to NoVA after the show (http://www.virginiahotlanes.com/documents/495-Capital-Beltway-Lane-Closure-092809.pdf)
-
i have a jam-packed work day ahead of me, so i won't be leaving until 5, getting there by 6, hopefully inside the stadium by 6:30. would love to be there earlier and tail-gate, check out fedex, etc but doubtful that will happen. taking metro.

you're talking about muse, right? 'cause U2 have been playing 22-24 songs (not counting snippets). http://www.u2setlists.com/360-northamerica.shtml
-
Yes, I was talking about Muse. They put on a good show, but I miss Bill playing the keyboard/piano with almost every song.
U2 was over the top. It was my first time seeing them. Doubt I'll ever go to anything that massive ever again.
Overall, a really great Tuesday night. Got to the lot at 6, and hightailed it out of there after listening to the encore in the parking lot.
-
Muse played most of their "hits" which I found interesting- I would have thought they'd concentrate more on the new album. Then again this is their big chance for exposure to a mainstream audience, so the choice of setlist was understandable.
Over the top is an excellent way to describe U2's show. I loved it. That stage was incredible. The tribal/techno'y remix of "I'll go crazy" was insane, probably the best thing I've ever heard them play.
I'll upload pix a little later (including a pic of the setlist, which the missus scored while I went for a beer run- before the band even hit the stage. Girl's got skills!)
-
A pretty average U2 performance IMO. A little too long between Muse and U2 coupled with the fact that "Breathe" doesn't really work as an opener. Bono's rambling speeches are starting to border on uncomfortable. Cool stage, but the whole thing is just way too big.
"Streets" is always great and I loved "Ultraviolet". Nice to hear "My Blue Room". Also liked the dance remix of "Crazy Tonight". Dare I say that some of the older warhorse songs are getting a little tired (WOWY, SBS).
Muse destroyed.
-
By the way, I thought it was hilarious when Bono thanked the openers, calling them "The Muse".
-
The only sad part about the show was that I realized I will never see Muse at the 930 again.

as promised/threatened, pix from last night: http://www.flickr.com/photos/68865102@N00/sets/72157622366872981/ (includes setlist)
i'm also uploading to picasa but that will take another half hour or so thanks to this hotel's crap interwebs connection.

i wouldn't be so certain. muse will never break in to the mainstream in this country, so who knows - they just might play the club again. the american mainstream likes visceral music, muse is too fancy-pants and cerebral.
-
i wanted to see muse sooooooooooooo bad.
got stuck in traffic.
boooo
didn't even get to tailgate.
-
Anyone going tonight in Charlottesville?
I'll be holding my nose as I walk into the UVa stadium ;)
-
No songs off of their first two albums? Nice :P

yup, should be pulling outta town around 2'ish. i've never been to c'ville/uva, looking forward to walking around campus a little. if anyone has a recommendation for things to check out, please share.
what's up with the nose-holding, eros? you a hoakie? (if so, sorry to hear that... ya know what UVA and VTech students have in common? they all applied to UVA :P)
-
Much better performance and experience than FedEx IMO. Could be because we splurged on the "red zone" tickets which gave an excellent view. Way less crowded and way less drunken a-holes there.
"Ultraviolet" should be in every U2 show.

last night's show was all kinds of weird, in a mostly good way. i agree, it was a better performance but i liked the crowd at fedex better: more energy, better sing-alongs, etc. i didn't have any drunk asshole issues on tuesday so that contributed to my positive perceptions, sorry that you had to deal with them eros (btw, we should meet up next time we hit one of these...). i think the band was trying a tad harder last night to connect with the crowd, they were a little more relaxed/less intense in DC. same went for muse - better last night.
c'ville was nowhere near sold out. i'm pretty sure you could have walked up and bought a field GA ticket at the venue, something that i suspect is relatively unheard of at U2 shows. the lower bowl was full but the upper deck was only 70-80% occupied. in both the field and the inner circle (pit) there was a lot of space between people, relatively speaking. i've never had an easier time of getting front and center at such a big show.
had red zone tix again. spent the DC show almost entirely in the red zone, only moving to the pit for the encores. this time we went straight in to the pit. we could have gotten to the rail, lots of space to move around (again, relatively speaking) but we didn't want to 'cause that would be rude and with an 8 foot high stage, rail isn't desirable anyways.
they sold no alcohol at the show, which turned out to be a blessing of sorts. no beer/bathroom runs, fewer drunk assholes (still lots of one-shot airplane bottles floating about) and it made the drive back easier for me. not sure i'd want that for every show, but for a road trip like c'ville it worked out.
we didn't have a parking pass so we paid someone $20 to park on their lawn, a thriving business in the neighborhood immediately to the south of the stadium. had an absolute BLAST partying with our "hosts" who were the image of southern hospitality. they really added to the experience. i strongly encourage folks to check out the neighborhoods around fontaine ave. it was a fun street-party scene, everyone was out partying and having a good time - even some older folks who had no idea who U2 were.
the "i'll go crazy" remix was still amazing. loved it.
damn tired today. more pix later.

Thought Muse owned. U2 were kind of meh. Not in love with the setlist.

Does anyone know if U2 uses prerecorded tracks when they play live. I swear the piano parts of Breathe were played, and it sounded like there were keyboards in Mysterious Ways. I didn't see anyone playing these parts live.

There is a keyboard/piano player UNDERNEATH THE STAGE..
They also use other prerecorded tracks....
Other than that its live though... :D

hutch beat me to it, that's what i've heard too - they have a session guy somewhere backstage playing keys.
they are definitely playing to tape during the "i'll go crazy" remix.
-
haven't had a chance to sort through my c'ville pix (yeah, i know, you're all holding your breath), but got these to share:

this Sunday the band's 360° Show at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena will be filmed for a dvd.
As they're drafting in more cameras to create a great film, the band has decided to allow it to be streamed live on YouTube.
It'll be officially announced later today but at 8.30pm (PT) on Sunday, wherever you are in the world don't miss the chance to see the show live and uninterrupted online.

-
is there really a need to see U2 more than once every 3 years?
