(Note that I'm using this thread as my gig perma-thread, updating it for each new gig with a new thread title and new thread content. So Sweetcell's replies below were in response to the content for my Sun. 9/26 gig at U Street Music Hall, opening for Thievery Corporation (original text viewable here (http://www.buzzlife.com/forums/showpost.php?p=3482441&postcount=1)), Blipvurt's reply of 10/22 was in response to my posting about my 10/22 set at Jimmy Valentine's, etc.)
EDIT: There was a scheduling mixup, so I'll now be DJing at Eighteenth Street Lounge on Sat. 8/20 rather than Sat. 8/13.
I'll be DJing at Eighteenth Street Lounge on Saturday, August 20 from 9:30-11:30 p.m., opening for Trotter (http://www.trottermusic.com.br/) (from Brazil).
Eighteenth Street Lounge is located at 1212 18th Street NW, Washington, DC (above Mattress Discounters).
The cover charge is usually $10 on the early side. The dress code is less stringent than it used to be, but in the past, items that were frowned upon included sneakers, athletic gear, torn/ripped jeans, flannel shirts, cargo pants, and possibly khakis or light-colored blue jeans.
Hope to see you there!

any idea about set times? even approximate? will you or meistro be on at 9?
-
I'll be on at 9.
Not sure about the rest of the set times.
-
Sweetcell, did you make it to Sunday's event?
-
unfortunately i didn't (i def would have said hi has i been there!). i was still a little worn out from freefest, i had an early flight on monday, i hadn't seen the missus all weekend, blah blah blah. AKA, i was lame. i even had tickets waiting for me.
how was it?? was the place packed? good times?
-
Replying to 1) bump the thread now that I've changed its title and content and 2) respond to Sweetcell's question re. the Sun. 9/26 Thievery DJ event:
It was good! I had fun DJing, and enjoyed Meistro's DJ as well.
I didn't stay for the entire Thievery set, as I had to be at work on Monday morning, but I enjoyed the portion I was there for. Rob was using Ableton to DJ; I think this is the first time I've seen him doing so. His mixing was very smooth and he used some effects.
It was interesting to see a Thievery DJ set in a venue other than Eighteenth Street Lounge or the 9:30 Club. It was packed, but not the way ESL gets packed when there's a Thievery DJ set there... much more comfortable ratio of space to people.
If you're around, come to the Backbar tonight (Friday)!
:)

Bump for the Friday, November 5 Backbar event.

I like the idea of updating one thread. Not only do we get to know the latest on your dj schedule, but it will serve as a time capsule of posts past.

Tonight! (That is to say, Friday, November 5.)

Bios for the guest DJs at tonight's Backbar event:
Rogers is an original D.C. junglist. He has held residencies at Epidemic and the legendary Act Your Age. He was also the head drum'n' bass DJ instructor at Metatrack Studios in DC and has written for junglist.com and Outerloop Paper. He was a founding member of Catalyst_dc in 1998, and his DJ gigs have seen him play coast to coast alongside the top names in d'n'b at the most respected d'n'b nights in D.C. and abroad. This year he is back and refreshed after a 7-year hiatus focusing his attention on d'n'b production, now getting back on the decks where he truly belongs. Welcome the return of the Rogers!
Classic Ice began collecting and DJing jungle/d'n'b records in 1994. Since then, he has branched out, spinning other types of music (including metal, hardcore punk, and thrash) plus the ever-popular "eclectic" sets. He possesses one of the most comprehensive jungle/ drum'n'bass record collections in the D.C. area. For the last several years, he has been operating on the periphery of the scene, being sure to change DJ names periodically. Classic Ice is now back on the grind and working in the recording studio with the likes of Rogers and DJ Stress as well as hitting the decks all over D.C.

Bumping for the July 15 King Britt show...
-
BTW, the King Britt show was written up in the Washingtonpost.com Nightlife Agenda for this week:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/going-out-gurus/post/nightlife-agenda-bastille-day-whiskey-and-a-tribe-called-quest/2011/07/12/gIQAVQDHBI_blog.html (http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/going-out-gurus/post/nightlife-agenda-bastille-day-whiskey-and-a-tribe-called-quest/2011/07/12/gIQAVQDHBI_blog.html)
The secret to King Britt?s long career is that he always challenges himself. Hip-hop, techno, house and soul have all gotten his signature touch, both through myriad releases and in his DJ sets. He once resurrected the lost music of a Southern folk artist and turned it into an album and live performance piece. Saturn Never Sleeps, the duo of Britt and vocalist Rucyl, is his current exploratory vehicle and you can experience it in an early show before his DJ set at U Street Music Hall. Originally inspired by Sun Ra, this experimental improvisational electronic project includes voice, beats and visuals that are created on the spot; they morph from dub to ambient and beyond.

Bump for the Sat. 8/13 gig at Eighteenth Street Lounge!
EDIT: There was a scheduling mixup, so my ESL gig will now be Sat. 8/20 (opening for Trotter) rather than Sat. 8/13.
