I want to try and lure some friends out to celebrate some stuff with me. Just general awesome stuff that has happened (like me meeting my hero, whoo!). I really want to go somewhere I can do some dancin to music that isn't going to annoy the crap out of me. The only thing I can think of is the Black Cat. Anyone have any other ideas for places to go? Inexpensive is the key word.
I'm thinking possibly this Friday or Saturday, preferably Saturday, but it might get pushed later depending on availability of friends. And of course once I figure out details you're all invited.

hooters

I'm not too crazy about the whole dj night at the BC thing so I can't speak from experience but the soul/funk thing on saturday shouldn't be too annoying. And it's free.
-
I am not so much the "soul/funk" sort of girl. This is the problem, I am slightly picky about the music I can dance to. Free is tempting, however.
I've usually had fun at the Black Cat things, so long as they're the right ones.
Do you know of anything other than BC, then?
-
Heh...not really.
I honestly don't remember the last time I did a dance party type thing. The soul/funk thing just jumped out at me a few times and made me think "hmm...I wouldn't mind hanging out listening to old 60's soul/funk records."

If you dont have to stay in DC there is a big thingamabob in Baltimore. more rave-type DJs though, at the Paradox.

Oh that thing.
I think I have a few friends going to that.
Come to think of it, the last dance party type thing I went to was a very similar event in NYC in the summer of '05.
There's also Kevin Saunderson at the Gallery in Silver Spring a week from friday if you're into techno. That should actually be pretty awesome.

haha, yeah, me too. in fact, i am going to it! I spent WAYYY too many Thursday nights in that club over the years....havent been there in years and it will probably be creepy, but i can walk there so fuck it.

Samantha, if you are into goth/industrial you might want to check out DJ Medusa and Strange's "Wasteland" on Friday, or another option along such lines is "Midnight" on Saturday.
Razzmatazz is at the Black Cat Saturday, and is one of the funnest of their dance nights.
-
Getting friends out is going to be tough enough, there's no way I can get people up to Baltimore. DC or Northern VA is it. And though I would be up for it, I don't think my friends are going to want to do the goth thing either. I have lame friends.
I think Razzmatazz may be it.
-
It sounds like you'd prefer somewhere else to the Black Cat, but I don't think you'll go wrong with Razmatazz... my last experience there was a lot of fun. I may see you there if I can convince any of *my* lame friends to go. (Ok, they're not lame at all, I just don't know that many people into DJ and dance nights.)
-
Um so yeah...this Friday, December 5th at the Black Cat. Be there!
-
I'm at DC9 for their dance party just about every Friday night, it's more electro/indie but you can walk up to the dj and request just about anything. 6 bucks to get in and open bar from 9-10:30, pretty solid deal. If you don't dig it, grab yr drinks and then head out somewhere else.
-
Samantha, move to Philly or NYC. DC's got nothing for you when it comes to dance music.
-
Ah, to be so young and carefree as to get up and move cities for a better dance scene...
-
For this Saturday, the Red and the Black has a fun dance night called U.B.U. and also there's another free dance party over at the Rock and Roll Hotel. Could make a night of that whole NE area of DC ;)
-
Just tell me where you're going to post the pictures....

I was at DC9 on Saturday actually. I prefer to pass on electro. But you should switch and come to Black Cat this Friday :)

I would love to move, but not Philly or NYC. Though I do remember that last night I was in NYC dancing to some snazzy oldies...now THAT I would like here. Or some good blues. That's my kind of dancing music.

I don't know the Red and the Black, and what type of music is that? And I'm afeared of the R&R. But I'm not against going out Saturday night as well, for sure ;D I just need people to go with me, is the problem.

ugh. fingers crossed.

The Red and the Black is just down a block from RnR and next to the Palace of Wonders. The music at Red and the Black will be a lot of 80s and who knows what else. All depends the DJs and what they've been drinking. :)

Sorted is on Friday.... Taxlo DJs are usually pretty heavy hitters.

hmm, 80s music is fun - some of it. why are you afraid of RnR

Oooh ooh love 80s for dancin! This is Saturday? hmmmm. Maybe if I can get a ride.

The RnR 'hood makes me nervous. I know I'm a wuss but walking to my car alone = not something I want to do. I'll totally go with someone but not alone nooo thanks.

What do you mean by that?

The immediate neighborhood around those H Street clubs is no worse than the area around the 930... and unlike anywhere else in DC you can usually park in the same block as the place you're going... just be prepared to outrun the bad guys. ;)
