Traffic in and out is awful. Sunday should be less awful.
I went to weezer there a couple of years ago, and it was a good show. But it was on a friday, so i took a 1/2 day, had lunch out there somewhere, got to the venue at opening and parked in a spot that allowed for easy getting the fuck out of there.
Note: You could not bring in any bags at all a couple of years ago. I don't know if that's still the case.

I got a pair for $100. That is a risk, but with enough information from the seller:
Full name

Email Address
You can usually do enough digging to ensure it's legit.

How To Get A Free Drink At Eight Bars Around Town (https://dcist.com/story/19/04/11/how-to-get-a-free-drink-at-eight-bars-around-town/)
Every Thursday night for three months this spring and summer, you can get a discounted Lyft ride home and one free drink at eight D.C. bars.
Here’s how it works, according to Lyft: You show up at one of the participating bars, ask for a free Lyft drink, and show the bartender the Lyft app on your phone. The bartender will make you a specialty cocktail (be advised: you don’t get to choose which one), and then type a special promo code into your Lyft app to get you 20 percent off your ride home.
The eight bars participating are mostly concentrated near the U Street corridor: There’s American Ice Company, Brixton, El Rey, Gaslight Tavern, and Satellite Room. You can also access the deal closer to Logan Circle at Players Club, in Petworth at Ten Tigers Parlour, or at The Wharf’s Brighton.
The promo runs from 5 p.m. till midnight on Thursdays only, through July 4. According to Lyft, the code you get from the bartender will only be usable until midnight, and you can only take advantage of the deal once per week.

The thing is after delivery fees, minimum order, and a tip, you’re going to be up to like $20 for that cruddy pizza.
-
I would argue the Detroit Style deep dish at Little Caesars (not the $5 pizza, it has to be the $8 Deep Dish) is superior all the way around.
-

I am of the opinion that they shouldn't even be able to legally call that Pizza

domino's pizza is gross. the dough tastes factory-made, they use the cheapest cheese, and the rest of their ingredients come from a can or a freeze-dried pouch. contains no love.

Friends. Until you try the THIN CRUST pie*, please do not comment. This stuff is life changing.
I'm very high brow in most of my tastes, however, this pizza is the best bang for your buck.
Also, Julez, it comes to $22.19 for two medium, two topping pies, and that is including a $5 tip. If you're Space, you can probably get this deal for under $20.
*It has to be thin crust, I will not back up Dominos for any other type of pie.

Perhaps a healthier alternative, though the h word and the p word probably should be used in the same post.

First it was indoor plumbing, then it was electricity, and now Dominoes! Rural Washington has come a long way in the last five years!

To be fair, I cannot speak to dominos thin crust because I am a Midwesterner and thin crust pizza is anathema to me, so it is not in the best interests of pizza justice for me to even weigh in on this. #NotTheTargetAudience

We may need a pizza thread.
-
I’m not saying we need a Pizza Thread but if we had one, I would definitely defend Pizza Hut as the best of the big four (all-crappy) pizza companies and that seems like easy fodder for the rest of you to insult so . . .
-
Pizza Hut, ruled my youth. The Pizza Hut, in Woodstock, VA . . . is still, as close as you can get to, the way they used to be.

I haven't had one in many years, but a greasy pan pizza with a red plastic cup full of Pepsi held a very special place in my heart from 1985 to the mid 90s.
-
I know my brother was probably partial to the fried clams at Howard Johnson's, but for this farm boy, a family trip to Pizza Hut was the ultimate treat as a kid.

LiveNation is doing a "Return to Live" sale: $20 lawn tickets for their sheds, like The Lube (https://returntolive.livenation.com/venues/433/jiffy-lube-live) and Pier Six (https://returntolive.livenation.com/venues/435/mecu-pavilion-formerly-pier-six-pavilion).
-
This is true but I think it’s $20 plus charges
So could end up being $35 for a lawn ticket to the lube…not exactly a great deal
The play is to get on lawn for one of these and buy an upgrade to the seats
But then you are probably talking $45
I can’t think of a show on their calendar I am excited enough to schlep over there and pay $45 for
Black Crowes is somewhat enticing but not $45
YMMV
-
I've had free tix to the lube and not gone (cheap trick/Joan Jett...which are bands I both like)

This is my thinking and I might go. Maybe I'll wait and see it it gets cheaper around the show date (and if I miss out, no big loss.) I guess I'll have to find a friend or go it alone, as this is what my wife said to the idea:
You keep gravitating toward stuff that's annoying crap designed to take your money and be a hassle...
large stadium concerts of senior citizens older than us? lining their pockets while we're stuck experiencing something you know is going to be not worth it
-
I mean it is the Who, I think they will put on a good show...but what do I know

I was going regardless. Last show at Jiffy Pop was great. Now that prices have come down- even better...but will they continue to come down and how low will stubhub get to close to date of show. Will probably hold off.

It is NOT The Who
There can’t be The Who without OX and Animal
They really should have changed their name to The Two

And Wilco needs to bring back Ken Coomer and Leroy Bach. And a hologram of Jay Bennett.
-
Don’t make me laugh…
Ox and Moon are two of the greatest of the great…you can’t compare them to Tweedy’s hired hands..no disrespect to Jay…
The rhythm section of The Who was The Who! With Pete’s slashing guitar over it.
You take away the rhythm section you ain’t got the band
I don’t think I am saying anything controversial
-
They really should have changed their name to The Two
not bad, I like the half who better
I still think pete/roger probably put on a fantastic performance tho
-
Sure. I bet they do
-
Let's not get into this debate...okay lets. So The Rolling Stones should've changed their name when Brian Jones died, ok, maybe not, well then when Bill Wyman left, no, okay how about when Charlie Watts died? No?
What about the Eagles in the 70's losing founding members.
Allman Brothers losing the amazing Duane Allman. Literally they were not Allman brothers.
Fleetwood Mac when Lindsey Buckingham left in the 80's and recently got kicked out?
E-Street Band when Clarence died?
Yeah Zeppelin stopped completely when Bonham died, and Grateful Dead changed name when Garcia died but those are exceptions.
With regards to The Who - The primary songwriter and two most famous members (and front men) can call themselves whatever they want. Townshend and Daltrey were/are the only irreplaceable members of The Who.
It is NOT The Who

-
Townshend and Daltrey were/are the only irreplaceable members of The Who.
for the causal greatest hits fans, yes
but moon and entwhistle are some of the most respected at their craft as just about anyone out there
-
Bands do stuff all the time
I think as long as you have Wood who is not original, Keef and Mick you have enough of the essence of the Stones…it works
Without Entwistle and Moon you do not have enough of the essence of The Who
Of course they can call themselves anything but I couldn’t see them live and think “this is The Who “
Daltrey and Pete are legends.
Eagles? Who cares
Allmans: they never came close to being the same band..I mean they stopped recording great new music one year after Duane died! Of course Dickey is great and they could bring it live but Eat a Peach features last great studio stuff
Fleetwood Mac with dude from crowded house is a horrible joke
E Street Band? It’s Bruce Springsteen so who cares who is in it or not
-
There is a caveat though
Zak Starkey, The Who’s drummer I think for 25 years , and ringo’s son supposedly learned to play the drums from Moon so ….
Just not enough for me to think it’s The Who
But Daltrey and Pete is not A bad thing
I think people don’t appreciate moon and ox enough..watch some isolated tracks of them playing live..mind blowing
Part of issue is for a while Ox was replaced by Pino Palladino who I cannot stand
-

whoa!

what's the point at that point?!
Dc has a sold out show and I think they have a fairly big following in the area, so I don't expect these kind of prices at all
I doubt you will be able to get them below face, but then again, I suck at these kind of predictions
edit...dc is already at $29 for the sold out date...see I suck at this

looks like folks have overestimated the demand for live entertainment. there was an initial rush for concert tickets once they started happening again, but either that demand had dried up, or entertainment providers have over-supplied the market. either way: you get the current glut of discount tickets.
-
Not sure that’s true
I think the prompters generallly knew they would end up selling some tickets cheap
-
there still are LOTS of sold out shows (just look at the 9:30 site)
but with these tiered pricing schemes, they can suckker in a few thousand super fans and that covers the cost of 1/3 empty venue
the prices of the seat close to the stage are insane...and they have sold alot of them
but at the same time...sad the entire front row is unsold
but at $1160 (+taxes and fees too!) a pop, I'd want t blow job from brian ferry too
(https://i.imgur.com/dkPSw4v.jpeg)
-
This has all been discussed ad nauseam
For the good seats at really big shows they use yield management systems ( like the airlines do ) to allocate seats so you can end up paying $499 for a seat the person next to you got for $99
It’s an attempt to keep as much of the upside or “cream” otherwise the formal scalpers get this and in essence artists are now scalping tickets to their hardcore fans… the Stones really pioneered this…they use the VIP packages which almost entirely consist of junk to move the good seats at higher prices
I doubt they could care less about the cheap seats
-
$16 for this great show!

I think we should send Jules and Yada and get a play by play, would probably be the best $32 I've spent all year

Why the hell they were booked there is beyond me. There's not a chance they would sell even half the venue. A two night stand at Anthem would have been better.

Wouldn't a headlining set by St. Vincent alone be enough the sell out a night at Anthem?
Was Roxy Music *ever* really that popular with the casual music fan who likely populates most of the seats of an arena show?
-
Not in the US obviously…Americans preferred lumpen meathead rockers like Zeppelin …not suave, stylish Roxy
In the UK they are the most important band of the 1970s. I have them even ahead of the Sex Pistols.
Their influence on the 1980s New Romantics and the entire new British Invasion incalculable.
Pick up and read any biography by 80s UK musicians and it’s always about Bowie and Roxy. And you can even take it further as Brian Eno was originally in Roxy and I think he has to be one of the more influential people in popular music. Dude produced DEVO, Talking Heads, U2 just for starters and obviously shaped Bowie’s Berlin trilogy
-
Important note: Eno is not joining them on tour…. I think it would have sold better if he was
Can you imagine being the guy who bought 2 front row tix for probably $1500 and brings a date, who likely has no idea who RM is
and sees 2500 people in a 25k seat arena
-
Yup Eno I think does not play live anymore.
But I mean he is only on the first two records. Most people don’t know the other members but Manzanera is no slouch and the drummer is fantastic. Andy Mackay on sax. They are all awesome musicians.
Of course seeing Eno with Roxy would be great but I don’t think that he has played live with them in almost 50 years so anyone expecting that doesn’t know Roxy Music.
-

completely unfounded theory: RM wasn't willing to hit the road for a club & theater tour. promoters had to entice them with stadium offers, which appealed to the band's self-perception/ego but, as ticket sales show, has no foundation in reality. now promoters are stuck trying to salvage this tour and pull in whoever for whatever price, in hopes of not losing their shirts.
-
Promoters have to be losing more than their shirts on this one
Although they may have sold enough $250 tickets to cover 10k people in the old price model for area shows
I know we won’t, but I would like to see the Ballance sheet for this show
Also, most important British 70s band… I can’t get on board with that even remotely. I could see top 10, or slightly better
Would like to hear other bordies on this take

They certainly don’t go to arena shows cause a band was influential in the UK.
They go to arena shows all the time cause bands were popular in the US 50 years ago.
Popular vs influential. Completely different. Velvet Underground was influential not popular.
-
Velvet Underground was influential not popular.
although if they could get the band back together(not sure holograms count), I bet they could fill arenas today...way more than RM
also, Eno was a part of RM on this "celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of the band's 1972 debut album" thing, yes I know he left the band shortly after, but he was on THAT album
Every other tour since 1974, I can see him not on...but this one kinda makes sense
would definitely make this tour a little more special and put butts in seats
This is a great quote that backs your point
Even Bowie thought, "Where the hell did these guys come from? I've been doing four albums and on the same day I released Ziggy Stardust, they bloody released their album."

As long as he doesn't have to tell the server "I have a coupon" in public, I think he's fine with that

That is exactly the threshold, all joking aside. I’ll never bring a physical coupon anywhere, but if they send me a $10 or $50 coupon for being a Criterion Channel member, I’ll use it online.

When overhyped band from 20 years ago plays multiple shows in a region within a few weeks, then the firesale happens at the largest of the venues.

https://www.msn.com/en-us/music/news/i-ve-been-to-over-200-concerts-and-music-festivals-tickets-aren-t-cheap-but-i-ve-learned-lots-of-ways-to-save-money/ar-AA1p3IK7
This line was truly depressing and it seems like live music is only for JA at this point
However, tickets aren't cheap and have been steadily increasing in price. In fact, according to Pollstar, the average cost of a concert ticket to one of the top 100 tours worldwide in 2024 is over $127 — a 9.4% increase from 2023.
I see about 40 show a year, thankfully I'm not spending $5k just on tickets. Although when you add in merch/beers...getting close to that
-
The best way not to overspend on concerts is to not buy alcohol or merch. These are the budget killers.
Unfortunately I love drinking at shows. Probably shows are an excuse I have used for decades - subconsciously- to drink. Like many people I prefer to see it as “partying”.
These days I go to far fewer shows a year than I used to….15 absolutely tops… and I almost never buy merch unless am trying to help out a band I love like Luna or GBV.
Trying to think what shows I have seen this year….GBV, Hives, Black Crowes, Belle and Sebastian, Ride/Charlatans, Feelies…I guess I bought merch…Charlatans and Ride shirts, GBV lp, Feelies lp. I have backed out of a few shows like Jane’s/L and R. It was just insane to think I could drive to Portsmouth
Oh I saw Neville Street Groove and Cake too. And my friends band OBL
I got my eye on Lemonheads, YLT, Massive Attack, Robyn Hitchcock and Nick Lowe…. I have a ticket for Air and Suki.
That would be 16 shows which like I said tends to be my max these days. I wish I could do more.
Marcos Valle at Howard is also appealing
-
GBV lp,
I think there is a Bare singed version at casa hutch I need to pick up
You also work at a music venue and probably catch another 20 or so concerts a year, I know it's not the same, but it's better than being outside
-

And a Mike Watt signed 45 sleeve…the 45 has disappeared!
True…but yeah it’s not at all the same…Sometimes something breaks through…Justice was my favorite

So going to hype up millions of records again cause I do think they have some good deals. I think with this order am done though but you can see some examples of the stuff they have. All new records

Hot Hot Heat!
Had no idea they released and album in 2016
On Friday June 24, 2016, Hot Hot Heat released a 10-track self-titled album and announced it would be their final album.
and then they reformed shortly...
On November 18, 2023, the band announced they had reunited via social media, with Bays, Hawley, DeCaro and Bossley consisting as the line-up. Their return single, "Shock Me" was released Dec 1. 2023. On January 26, 2024, however, the band announced via social media that their reunion had come to an abrupt end just before the new year due to Bays feeling "he could not participate."

This store in its former incarnation was called ebreggae and was all about reggae. My understanding is Ernie and his partner brother had a falling out or went bankrupt and Ernie started this new store.
They are the best for reggae and bootlegs. And clearly they are getting rid of overstock/cut outs for suppliers and have special arrangements with some labels
