Tavola is the best restaurant in town but idk if young kids are the move there.
Michies Tavern seems like a cool “with kids” thing and it’s not far from Apple picking. Monticello obviously you already know.

That’s good. Thanks.

Williamsburg, for a college tour. My wife wanted the tour guide's phone number. I will say, he was the best tour guide we've had, and this was our fourth tour this year.
Next up, afternoon tour in Newport News.
Stopping in Richmond for dinner on the way home.

The Venn diagram of students legitimately and realistically considering CNU and William + Mary is wild.

Might as well cover the unlikely reach and the unlikely target in the same trip. They, along with Mary Washington, give a good feel of what a small liberal arts school would feel like at an in state school price.

How long until space starts mandatory food rationing in his abode to pay for over priced liberal arts degrees?

Not something to worry about if you start investing in a 529 at kid's birth.
And yeah, overpriced compared to when we all went to school. But take a look at lifetime earnings for bachelor's degree or above vs. high school education.

s birth.
. But take a look at lifetime earnings for bachelor's degree or above vs. high school education.
while true in some cases, most people would make more in a lifetime starting work early in a trade
college is great, but it's not for everyone, even 1/2 of everyone
One thing that I never heard NKTOB rail about is Biden's promise to make community college free; I think that would have a gigantic impact for generations.

Aren't most of the "trades", at lest the better paying ones, male dominated? Because of course they are. If 98.3% of plumbers, pipefitters, and steamfitters were women, those would be some of the shittiest paying jobs around.
(Fun fact...my dad left a lucrative career in aeronautical engineering behind to be a family farmer...and ended up being a pipefitter in a paper mill for 40 hours a week while running a farm into the ground another 60 hours a week.)
And as a woman, the dating pool is better while you're in college and a college graduate. I feel like I can say the same for myself too, though I've been out of the pool for 20+ years.
And yeah I'm for anything that makes college more affordable for those who can't afford.
I want to know where Hutch ate at in C-ville. Since we love college tours so much, we still might do the tour there to see what we'll be missing because our kid doesn't have a 1470 SAT score and 4.4 GPA.

Is it that hard getting into UVA as a state resident?
Anyways don’t know that my oldest who is in 8th grade will even make it to college. The older he gets the more I feel his autism is an issue. It really tears me up. I guess my kid will be mopping floors for Spaces….oh wait they will have robots doing that…
It sure is a beautiful campus and looks like a wonderful place to go to college.
I was sure glad to make it to Monticello finally. Always wanted to visit.
The food at Michies was real good even if my kids took three of my four chicken tenders.

Yes. Premier academic institution in the state — less than 20% acceptance rate, iirc. I believe only
Washington and Lee is harder to get into.
-
Is it that hard getting into UVA as a state resident?
yeah, in state has always been really competitive

Wow you guys are lucky!
We have stayed at a lot of different places on the shore from Bethany to Fenwick and OC….i think this is our best yet as it’s overlooking the beach.
What’s the best pizza joint here? Don’t say Grottos….any other food recs?
-
Yeah, it's a charmed life for sure.
As for recommendations, depends what you like. My kids do love Grotto's, but we don't really get pizza up here much.
If you're looking for reasonably priced, family meal...Warren's Station up in Fenwick is really good. I've never actually eaten at the restaurant, but we get carry out a bunch. I heard their breakfast is great, but we've never done it.
Fager's has a good dinner too...if you're looking for fancy, fine dining is killer, but it's $$$. We save it for special events (birthdays, our anniversary, etc.).
Primo's Hoagies is great for lunch. They're at the corner of 133rd and bayside, so it's walking distance. I'd order ahead though...it's not the height of the season but they do get busy. Plus it's connected to a bar, so you can eat and have a drink.
Obviously Fractured Prune is great for donuts, if you haven't gone...they're right across the street at 127th / bayside. And Uber Bagels is good for bagels / breakfast sandwiches....they're at 126th. But the best breakfast IMO is Bad Monkey. The wait can be a bit rough, but at this time of year, it's probably not too bad. I struggle with what to order...its that good. I hear their lunch is great too, but we've never done it either...I think we might try this week finally.
Lots of other stuff we usually hit too. Grab & Go tacos right before Fenwick is really great. Line can be long, but you can order ahead. Plus it's right across the street from the viking mini gold, go-karts, an arcade, and near ice cream and Candy Kitchen, so it's a nice night out. We do get food from Mirage Cafe in the Montego Bay shopping center...kind of hidden in the back corner, but it's good. There's another good family style place up in Fenwick called Our Harvest that's really good too. Probably more I'm forgetting.

Yea we are definitely lucky and that area is nice especially with Northside Park close by. OC food is usually inconsistent which is disappointing. Mirage is pretty good, not great, but consistent. For pizza we usually just go with Ledo's but if we happen to be in north Rehobeth I always go to Niolca's for their everything Nico-boli. If you head home via Delaware route 404 definitely stop for ice cream at the Vanderwendes farm. Unless of course you don't like ice cream.
-
Yeah, Venderwendes is great. We almost always swear we're going to drive straight home, no stops...and almost always wind up going there or the T.S. Smith Orchard Point Market.
Agreed about Mirage...it's usually the place we go when we've eaten at all of the other spots and just want something different. Nice to just walk across the street.

Where can I take stuff for recycling around North OC??
-
They used to have separate can bins on the beach, and the fire house at 130th used to have bins as well but the city stopped recycling a bunch of years back because it was too expensive lol

just throw it in the dunes like everyone else

We take our recycling home with us. Such a pain
Where can I take stuff for recycling around North OC??
-
apparently they burn it all in OC
https://oceancitymd.gov/oc/departments/public-works/recycling/
I will add, consumer recycling is a myth we've all bought in on
in concept it's great, in reality it's not happening to any degree that makes a difference
The only way consumers can make a big impact...reduce and reuse
and Compost! Composting is the most impactful thing residential consumers can do
the pressure needs to be on gov't and commercial...as the amount of waste they produce that can be recycled dwarfs what consumers produce and that's where the focus should be

Yeah I remember I used to take it to that firehouse but I checked it out and there is an unmarked container…and website no longer says anything about recycling…come to think of it last time I put my recycling there it felt iffy

I haven’t seen one piece of garbage on beach here….
Only annoyances are some playing their annoying “country that’s not country” music and people who pitch big canopy tents right by water and then disappear most of the day. I note canopy tents are illegal in Rehoboth
-
We have decided to take the aluminum recyclables home….not sure what to do with my 36 bottles of corona (5 of which still to be drank)
I am not prepared to accept that recycling our stuff is not a net positive. I think that’s a facile way of looking at things to go to bed comfy about turning the planet into a big garbage dump.
-
aluminum recyclables home…
aluminum is one of the few that recycles well
if you are serious about this kind of stuff, you should stop buying things in glass bottles
glass while it CAN be recycled, it's Enivronmental impact is so much greater (mostly due to weight, inefficient packaging and breakage), which is usually a net-negative in the end
Arlington decided it wasn't worth it with glass (at least curbside)
and we are about as blue as it gets, so that tells you something

Dylan says you should have used “green” not “blue”…
