Basically I meant to convey that of all those concerts, one act was good, and the other sucked royally .. the good act not necessarily being the headliner.  As for Elbow and South, Elbow were just vastly superior; South didn't even register, I have no memory of them. As for the Pixies .. they blew Love and Rockets off the stage, no wonder Daniel Ash pitched a fit on stage. And Emmett opening for Blur and Jeff Buckley, well let's just say it's nice they rode that train while they could .. they got to open for some great bands. But these kinds of pairings are part of the great fun of live concerts, and why as much as possible it's worth seeing opening acts ... you never know who will eventually rise to the top. Such as:

Gang of Four and R.E.M - the Bayou 1981
PiL and the Beastie Boys - the Warner 1986
Red Hot Chili Peppers/Smashing Pumpkins/Pearl Jam - Bender Arena 11/91
 Mike Watt/Foo Fighters/Hovercraft - Black Cat 1995
 etc etc

Screaming Blue Messiahs and Jazz Butcher sometime in '86 on F St. Great show but weird pairing.

I wonder if the Monkees were getting into their "Head" stuff when Hendrix toured with them. "Circle Sky" and "Daydream Believer" sound like they're from two completely different bands.

Maroon Five opened for Cowboy Mouth at Slim's in San Francisco three or four years ago.

I knew something weird was up when a couple dozen teen girls were attending.

How could I forget Jason Mraz and Liz Phair.

Having her sing that Flower song to a huge audience of Mraz fans was great.

i saw that show with Mike Watt,Foo Fighters and Hovercraft...

Seeing Mike Watt play with Eddie Vedder and Dave Grohl was like seeing the Cream of my Generation... Foo Fighters were on their first tour without having yet put an album out, Grohl and who ever was his drummer at the time did a little dualing drummers bit.  Pat Smear was still on guitar.  And I believe Grohl meet one of his wives at the show because she was from Detroit.

The lovely Hoovercraft with Eddie wearing a mask which didn't stop people in the audience from calling out his name.  Is Eddie still married to the women whose band Hoovercraft was?  My only thoughts were if I had a band it would have probably sounded like them...

Opening acts...I saw the Go Go's open for The Police way back when.

Actual pairings...Sammy Hagar and David Lee Roth on tour together. What a publicity stunt. I missed the backstage broohaha because I was on vacation but there were stories when I got back.

I can't believe no one has mentioned the Jacksons Victory tour from RFK in the summer of 84. Sold out, 50,000 people. You know who opened for them?

 a juggler.
