Worst Concert Pairing, EVER
« on: April 24, 2006, 12:59:00 pm »
In conjunction with the DBT record review thread,

I'd like to offer up this recent show @ the Charlottesville Pavilion as the worst double bill ever:

 Drive-By Truckers

 and then

 Robert Randolph

Holy WTF! I thought I was going to have an aneurysm during all that jamming. The UVA kids did like it tho when Boyd Tinsley of DMB fame joined the fray.

 ************************

 Can you top it?

hmm the obvious answer here is... any HFStival...  I've sat thru 6 hours of shit to see 45 minutes of goodness on multiple occasions.

When pelt opened for Sonic Youth it was very odd... Anyone remember that show?  They played one note for 25 minutes.

I think the word "pairing" is usually associated with the word "two". Though I could be wrong.

on the popmart tour, rage against the machine was the opener at the cotton bowl.

on the zootv outdoor tour, the openers in the bay area was the sugarcubes and public enemy.  let's just say that U2 doesn't shy away from interesting combinations.

in recent memory...

Bardo Pond opening for Dinosaur Jr. has to take the cake.

also, the Zutons opening for Muse were very annoying.

I'd like to see U2 be braver and take a relative unknown on the road with them. I mean they sell out arenas world wide and people aren't buying tickets to see the opening acts. So why don't they use some of that power and pull to help launch the career of a new artist?

Just my thought. I feel the same way about any artist who can pack houses and stadiums on their own and yet seem to forget what it was like when they were looking for a break.
