i disagree... there is lots of stuff on eMusic that has not been released on CD in the US available only as an import. i.e The Rascals - Rascalize 20.98 via Amazon for the CD. Two or Three dollars via eMusic.
plus. eMusic has plans to make available albums long out of print on vinyl
people bemoan the rise of MP3 only releases but in some cases they make perfect sense to me. i.e. Idlewild's b-side and rarities collection is an digital release, which makes sense because only their most rabid fans are likely to be interested in getting it and it doesn't make sense to release on CD for such a limited market.
i also noticed that the Rhino has released digitally the second disc for the recent expanded release of Love's "Forever Changes" album. here again makes perfect sense, as there maybe some interested in this additional material but may already own the album and don't want to shell out for the deluxe CD again.
