I am dating myself, but I just want to note for the record that it was 1983, and I couldn't drive to the show!!

But later I bought "Murmur" and that started a whole somethin' somethin' with the Bagster....

I wasn't at the show but REM did an instore at Penguin Feather in Greenbelt the day after the first show. I was still in my vest from my PT job at Bradlee's in the same shopping center. My name badge was still on the vest. Stipe grapped it and asked me if "Bradlee" was Ben Bradlee of the Washington Post. "Ida know" I said. "The chain's from Massachusetts." I asked Buck how the crowd reaction was and he said "Miserable." The instore was hosted by none other than the Greaseman    who was still on DC101 at the time.

How about Interpol opening for Mogwai at Bowery Ballroom in NYC, circa 1999! That was a great show.

My all-time favorite double-bills @ 9:30 (except where noted):

*Super Furry Animals opening for Grandaddy 10/2/03
*Denison Witmer opening for Trembling Blue Stars (old Metro Cafe) 11/5/01 - birthday cake for the whole tiny audience!
 *Idlewild opening for Placebo 5/24/01
*The Strokes (one of those great 'before-they-were-famous' moments) opening for the Doves 2/25/01
*The Stereophonics opening for the Charlatans (in Philly) 4/8/00
*Cibo Matto opening for Luscious Jackson (send off show) 8/10/99
*Esthero opening for Gus Gus 5/2/99
*The Superjesus opening for Jesus & Mary Chain (the old Bohagers) 7/13/98
*The Ghandarvas opening for Catherine Wheel 12/8/97

Glad I'm not the only one that keeps a list of all the shows I've been to in case this sort of occasion arises!

Mmmm, nice.  Saw the Smithereens open for the Pretenders in NJ, 1986

Also (one per decade, must be dozens more,  brain damage--see drinkometer thread--prevents total recall):

Big Brother and the Holding Company (w/Janis) for Blood, Sweat & Tears (Al Kooper version, not that top-40 perversion), Psychedelic Supermarket (cap. 400), Boston, 1968

Ry Cooder for Randy Newman, Boston, 1974

Rosanne Cash for Lyle Lovett, Greek Theater, Berkeley, 1994

Steve Earle for Lucinda Williams for John Prine, Nashville, 2001

Ah yes, the Philadelphia Songs album, quite excellent. Did you see him with Tracy Shedd at Velvet Lounge? Poor baby was sick as a dog!

The Music opening for The Vines and Ima Robot opening for Hot Hot Heat. Both were better than the headlining bands.
