judge was like...ok you killed someone while not maintaining control of your vehicle. hey man we all make mistakes
 ok you get some defensive driving class, but you do it again, we'll throw the book at you

(he wasn't intoxicated and didn't flee the scene ...there is also a pay restitution part of the settlement, so maybe the family was like, we'll take a payday instead of sending him to jail)

I don’t think so. I think they can obviously sue in civil court over $. I think the family is disgusted with the ruling.
