Has anyone sold to any of those record shops in DC?  I'm thinking Smash, Crooked Beat, etc.
I've only traded in at Record and Tape Exchange and CD Cellar in NoVa - and it's always better to go with trade credit over cash.  If I have something I know i can sell at a decent price i'll list it on either Amazon or Half - though Amazon sells quicker they take a bigger cut.  I'm also a fan of just giving CDs to friends who i think might be into it.

I believe I hit up a CD / Game Exchange in Chevy Chase and it wasn't even worth the trip.  They give you like $.32 and other strange prices on trades..

There was a rumor that a lot of their stock was actually re-sale of stolen goods a few years ago.  They were selling Six Feet Under seasons for less than 10 bucks a pop...

I have definitely gotten a lot of radio station/promo copies there for real cheap with big fat "no resale" stickers on 'em.

Record and Tape Traders can also be a decent bet but I'm not sure what the closest location to DC is.

Who gives a shit about buying stolen merchandise from Soundgarden??  I've seen The Wire. I'd much rather have those kids selling Six Feet Under DVDs than dope!  Their 'stolen merchandise' is most likely unwanted gifts and unopened promos..

it generally doesn't save money to send a CD media mail or anything other than normal 1st class mail, so you just stamp them up and set them out every day for your mailman ...
How do you know how much the postage should be -- send one once via the post office and then put that same amount on for future packages?

I already have a huge number of (used) padded envelopes from CD promos I've received over the years, so that part of it would be out of the way.  They aren't all exactly the same size, though.

(I'm still not convinced on the hassle factor, but am a little more receptive to this selling-online idea than I was before.)

I am in the process of selling all of my cds, I have mostly sold them to a couple stores here in portland, but I sell some on ebay if I think I could get more.  I would list them all on Amazon but I would rather poke myself in the eye rather than take the time to do that.  I have made about $1500 so far from the stores.

I tied the online Amazon sale and didn't like having to go to the post office so often.

I also tried secondspin.com and have had problems with at least one shipment.  They still owe me about $150.

I had the best success with local retailers (but of course, I also have an Amoeba nearby).

With regard to brick-and-mortar stores in D.C. -- where am I likely to get the most money for my CDs?

 How about for records?
